Book Description

November 29, 2005 1403937001 978-1403937001
Between 1950 and 1967 the International Economic Association undertook a major task--to select, translate and publish important articles by leading economists of the first half of the twentieth-century that had appeared only in non-English-language journals. The twelve collections reprinted here as six volumes include the best-known European economists writing in the following areas: general economics and methodology; prices and allocation theory; macro-economics, monetary theory and distribution; international economics; public finance, monetary and fiscal policy, social accounting; communist and marxist economics; welfare economics and public utility pricing; history of economic thought and biography; and economic development and growth.

About the Author

The International Economic Association was founded in 1950 as an NGO at the instigation of the Social Sciences Department of UNESCO. It is a federation of national economic associations and committees representing economists. Its aim from the beginning has been to promote understanding among economists in different parts of the world through mutual contact, common research programmes and through publications of an international character on problems of current importance.

Sir Alan Peacock is currently Honorary Research Professor in Public Finance at the Edinburgh Business School. One of the UK's best-known experts on the economics of public finance, he has had a long and distinguished career as economic advisor to governments, the OECD , the IMF and the UN and was one of the guiding editors of the IEA Papers when they were first published in the 1950s.
