I was looking for a pail that was attractive enough to sit on the counter but large enough to reduce the trips to the compost bin (I have the compostumbler...highly recommended). I had a ceramic pail before but found it too small and heavy, and a hassle to clean. This one works well, and would get 5 stars were it not for the fact that the lid doesn't seal. I don't know if that's a design problem or if I just got a bad one, but it's a problem because it allows tiny fruit flies to get in. But I haven't seen another one this size, so I'll stick with it.

As we did not want a "garbage can look" on our kitchen counter, we bought the RSVP International Jumbo Compost Pail, 1.5 gallon size, with "under the sink" in mind. It looks great THERE. Going up from the more traditional 1-gallon size, this pail's advantage is fewer trips to the compost outside. It's easy to clean and offers a filter on the inside of the pail cover as well.

One caveat, however: After only three weeks use, I took it outside, inverted it to empty the contents, and discovered that the screw holding the left side of the handle had popped out. Lucky for me, both screw and nut fell into the pail and did not disappear in a pile of grass clippings, melon skins, apple cores, coffee grounds, egg shells, (etc.). You might not be as lucky.

Moral? The handle construction might be the Achille's heel of this product. If you buy it, check the screws on the handles for tightness, then recheck them periodically. Beyond that, we've been nothing but pleased.

for years i have been using a covered plastic pail to store kitchen scraps and housed it under the sink. this pail is much bigger than the one i was using, much more attractive (not that it matters. i still keep it under the sink), and really does help with the smell. i am quite pleased with the quality.

After our ceramic compost container broke, we decided to switch to stainless steel. We are very happy with this style, especially the double filters as we are getting less mold inside. The larger size is also very helpful, I can peel apples for a pie and veggies for dinner and it's still not full.
The only disappointment is the cleaning of it. It didn't get as clean as I would like in the dishwasher. With a good scrub occasionally, it still looks like new.

I read the reviews on this item and purchased it based on what I read. I have had it for over a month now, I believe and am very satisfied with it! I don't smell a thing, due to the double charcoal filters and it holds quite a bit of trimmings. It is attractive and doesn't take up too much space on the countertop. Great value for the price, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a compost pail!

I had a bamboo 1 gallon compost for my counter and it started to fall apart so I began searching Amazon for a replacement. I was a little worried about the size of this one because it is 1 1/2 gallons. I am so happy that I ordered this one because it is very solid and looks good on my counter. It is shorter and wider than my old bamboo one. It is very sturdy and I know it will last a long time. So happy I have this one!

I am an avid composter. I have had several plastic containers for compost. They were very ugly and were hard to clean. I was very happy to see this stainless pail that was 1.5 gallons. However, after a few weeks of use, we have determined that we cannot have it inside, as fruit flies are a constant problem. We experimented to see if it was a banana in the kitchen, but unfortunately it was the pail. We don't understand why it is the case, but our experience is that you cannot use this without getting fruit flies. Too bad!!

We have been composting for about 15 years and always used plastic pails and the container would take on the bad odor of rotting food over a period of time. This container is ideal as the stainless steel does not hold any odors and cleaning it is super easy. The filter alows the compost to receive air and start the breaking down process but trully traps all smells inside the container. Last, the size is great at 1.5 gallons. The 1.0 gallon containers on the market would not have been large enough.

Now we have a place to put all are leftover vegies and scrap kitchen trimmings. Best of all it gives it give off no smell. All this kitchen compost goes into my large out door compost bins and is eventually recycled to our Garden.

This is a great compost pail. It holds a good amount of scraps so that makes for fewer trips to the compost pile. The carbon filters work great at keeping the smells away. It looks great on the counter too!
