A History Lesson on an American Legend,
By
This review is from: International Harvester, McCormick, Navistar: Milestones in the Company that Helped Build America (Hardcover)
Congratulations and thanks to both writers and all contributors to this magnificent book. It certainly gives a very broad view of how the Company grew, expanded and then reorganised to become again a leader in the US industry. Another good point is that despite a lot of moves towards globalisationit still is an American Company and I hope it stays like that.A few points that seem to be missimg and that I would like to add for the benefit of the readers and also writers: 1.- I did not see any mention of the former McCormick residence in Chicago, on East Ontario Street. The location is presently one of the best grills in Chicago, namely Lawry's. Going there makes you feel how IH was reigned in those days. 2.- The quality of the American Truck made it what it is today and I can proudly say that out of 755 Fleetstars purchased in 1975638 are still running with TCK - The Turkish Highways in their gleaming Omaha Orange colors as if they were brand new. No mention of such quality examples was made in the book. 3.- I might have missed it, but I did not see any mention on what the IH (Black & Red) logo was made for.It is A Farm tractor with "H" for the tyres and "I" for the farmer and the exhaust stack. Thanks again, K.Münir Hamamcioglu - Istanbul/ Turkey

This book has elegant presentation. A thorough, complete history of the International product line. Good archival and comptemporary photos. The restored truck samples are excellent and cleverly photographed. As a retired long time employee of International Trucks I found the information to be accurate in my areas of acquaintance with the product history. A valuable addition to my collection of company memorabilia.

Overall an excellent history and great pictures, however they forgot to include the merger with the Frank G. Hough Company back in the early 1950's and the proud line of Payloader front-end loaders and aircraft movers produced at the Libertyville, IL plant until the line was sold in the early 1980's to Dresser.

I bought the book to add to my collection of IH books and memorabilia. I found the book to be very well laid out and the photos are beautiful. Like mentioned before, there were some things missing, but I have all the other books that cover the missing links. This is a beautiful book and I encourage anyone that is a IH fan or truck enthusiast to get the book. I spent 2 and half hours reading it from front to back. I got engrossed and just finished it like nothing to it. For another book of great interest to those who want more on IH construction and Frank G. Hough, get the book Payline, by Oscar H Will III. Another exceptional book. Only took me two hours to read that from front to back at one sitting.

This review is from: International Harvester, McCormick, Navistar: Milestones in the Company that Helped Build America (Hardcover)
I knew about this book as I work for the company. It was great though to be offered such an excellent deal on a fantastic book. It is filled with much detail about our company and hope many others purchase it. What a way to look back over 150+ years of progress---something to share with family members of all ages

Milestones:International Harvester,McCormick,Navistar,Milestones in the company That Helped Build America. This is a Good book, Informative History, Although I feel it could have been more, it certainly could have had more pictures, there are some Trucks that Deserve more pictures than the standard treatment given, For example : Transtar 4300 and the Beautiful Transtar 4300 Brougham Truck.Big Spread of that truck would have been good. Other than that, it's a good book. Although I wouldn't go as far as saying it literally Built America. What About Mack? and then Much Later Peterbilt?

This book finally fills a space in a truck fan's shelf. There are plenty of books for Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Ford, Chevy, etc, but very few for IHC. This book contains a wealth of historical photographs, and also many color photographs of classic and recent examples of various International vehicles. My only negative comment relates to this book's brief attention paid to the impact and prevalence of such types as the Transtars and especially the Loadstars - the latter type familiar to two generations of school bus passengers. These trucks were once everywhere, yet they rated only a few photos and sentences in this book. Other than that, this is an excellent book, and is a great complement to the old Crestline series book "International Trucks".

This is a beautiful book, full of wonderful photographs and history. I bought it as a gift for the International Harvester lovers in my family, and they were impressed. Big pages, hard-bound, great for coffee tables. So impressed was my husband that Ansel Adams drove a Travelall (photos in the book) that it lead to the purchase of a print for our wall. Again, a wonderful gift item.

I am finding this book very interesting as a 35 year service retiree of the company. Its illustrations are very good and cover a wide range of products. The information about the history of the company from the early days is very enlightening. A great look and read for anyone interested in trucks, International Harvester and history in general.
