5.0 out of 5 stars Classic and brilliant!, February 23, 2005

One of the greatest reggae albums ever written! You don't even have to be a pot smoker to enjoy it. They give king Bob a run for his money with this album.

A stunner by culture - I saw the cover of the album, maked by a budding female, and checked out the first track 'International Herb'. Brilliant, on the basis of this track I purchased the album and I reckon it to be the best Ive heard yet. A stormer! To anyone who liked Two Sevens Clash, this is better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Solid Culture Album, July 24, 2009
This review is from: International Herb (Audio CD)
Look, I'll give any culture album I've herd or own (which would acount for most of them) a 5 star rateing, but this is one of the top 5 (my personal favoite is "Trust Me"). The only album by this truely magnificient reggae band I'm not too keen on is "Humble African",sounds overproduced with too many hooks and grooves, almost discolike, not what I've come to expect from Joseph Hill and co., But back to International Herb. Some tracks that stand out are "International Herb", "Chiney Man", & "I Tried". Overall a masterpiece of roots reggae by a truely unique band. If you're looking for a first Culture album, this one or "Trust Me" would be very good starting points, if you're a die hard Culture fan and don't have this one all I can say is, "Why?". R.I.P. Joseph Hill, you will be missed, One Love.

it is a master piece by the group. i also own cuombolo and two seven clash, but international herb is the best by far. various topics are touched upon: smoking, racial harmony, message of redemption...this disc must be one of the best reggae albums ever record! thanks culture!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Reggae Music, November 24, 2010

This is one of the best, period. Joe Hill's vocals are so strong on this record, it's like a messager from the past. Al Walker and Kenny brings it too. I think this is better than "Two Sevens Clash" If you love roots music, you must have this record. "It A Guh Dread" is a classic and if you listen to Joe on "I tried" you can hear he's crying... such a wonderful tune. I can't say anything bad, this is classical roots people music.
GET IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars listenin' with new ears, October 28, 2008

Nico (subterranean) - See all my reviews

The crazy thing about Culture is that this record sounds more unique today than when new. I remember thinking that Joseph Hill and gang were roots to a fault. No hooks and gimmicks to catch the listeners ears. Just a simple smooth continuous riff for Joseph to drift his voice over. I was wrong, sure the groove is like a drive thru the country, but the band and back-up harmonies do fill in every nook and cranny. They just do it without big city road rage.
