A good buy,

A good buy. Lots of good songs. It might be nice to have the English translations printed under the notes as well to know how they fit when the syllables don't all match. Other than that it's pretty comprehensive.

This review is from: The International Jewish Songbook (Book only) (Paperback)
One of the distinctive features of Judaic culture is its music. Expertly compiled, edited, and arranged by Velvel Pasternak, "The Jewish Songbook" is a 255-page compendium of music complete with scores and lyrics. The songs themselves are organized into sections: Songs of Israel; Songs in Yiddish; Sephardic & Oriental; Songs in English; Sabbath & Holidays; Chassidic & Liturgical. Each individual selection has a brief descriptive meaning of the words in the featured Hebrew or Yiddish songs is provided in English. Enhanced with the inclusion of a selected bibliography, an index of the first lines, a selected discography, and an alphabetical index, "The Jewish Songbook" is a veritable showcase of the rich cultural legacies, traditions, and beauty of Jewish vocal music and a seminal, enthusiastically recommended contribution to personal, professional, academic, community, and synagogue library collections.
