The International Mathematical Olympiad competition is held every year with the final taking place in a different country. The final consists of a two day exam with the contestants being challenged to solve three difficult problems each day. This book contains the questions from the finals taking place between 1986 and 1999 inclusive. For each problem the author has included at least one solution and often remarks about alternative approaches and the significance of the problem. Many of the solutions are derived from answers given by contestants rather than the organisers as these were often the most elegant solutions. This collection will be of great value to students preparing for the IMO and to all others who are interested in problem solving in mathematics.

About the Author
Marcin Kuczma graduated in 1966 from the University of Warsaw, Faculty of Mathematics,. He has taught mathematics there since then, and his main research areas are real analysis, and measure theory. He is a member of the Polish Mathematical Society, and has served as a consultant on the advisory panel of the Mathematics and Informatics Quarterly. Marcin Kuzcma has been active in the area of mathematical competitions, serving recently as a member on the Polish Mathematical Olympiad Committee, and of the World Federation of National Mathematics Competitions. The Federation honored him with the David Hilbert International Award in 1992.. He has contributed several problems to the International Mathematical Olympiad Competitions.
His publication include: On Numerical Series (in Polish); Problems. 144 Problems of the Austrian-Polish Mathematical Competition 1978-1933; (with Erich Windischbacher) Polish and Austrian Mathematical Olympiads 1981-1985, and Mathematical Olympiads 2000 (in Polish. He has contributed many problems to various journals: "Crux Mathematicorum," "American Mathematical Monthly," "Journal of Recreational Mathematics", and "Elemente de Mathematik."
