5.0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction To The United States Map
Our 5 year-old son plays this game with us and we all enjoy it. This game is a great way to teach children the names and locations of the states. It also teaches an interesting fact about each state. In this version of the game, the players don't have to know the names of the state capitals, but since that information is provided on the game board my son is picking up...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great learning tool!
My kids love this game! It's easy to play & it teaches them simple facts about each state in the union. My complaint is the timer broke the moment we opened the game & the game company was not willing to replace it without a receipt (the item was a gift). Also, I think it would have been more beneficial to include a few more facts about each state on the game card...

In this version of the game, the players don't have to know the names of the state capitals, but since that information is provided on the game board my son is picking up on it too.

There is a 60 second timer so you can help level the playing field by varying the amount of time older players have to read the card and give the answer. We give our son 45 seconds and my husband and I get 15 seconds. We all finish well ahead of the timer, but we find it easier to use the main intervals marked on the timer. You could use different intervals if you desired.

Durability: We buy a lot of board games and this one has held up better than the others. The cards are thick so they are not easily bent. Also each set of cards has a zip bag so they stay stacked and sorted when you put them away.

The game is actually helping my 5 year old granddaughter with reading as well as learning about the states. Every child who plays the game with her wants one, too! I can't say enough good things, just hurry up and buy it. Your kids will be ever grateful.

Our family loves to travel the United States. I picked up this game to give my five year old son a visual aid in learning where we have been and where we plan on going. It has helped him on many level of learning. Just a great game for great kids.

This is a great board game. It teaches the states' names, shapes and a fun fact about each state. The players, depending on what card they pick, have to find a state that starts with a certain letter, find the state that matches the shape, or find a picture of something on a state. My 5 and 3 year old girls love it. They ask to play it all the time. The only negative thing is that since they cannot read well yet, I have to be present while they play. I guess that is not totally a bad thing since I probably need a geography lesson myself!! This is very educational and will definitely help my kids get a head start in geography. (Also, the state capitals are written on each state.)

My 5 year old daughter loves to play board games, but I find that most of them take a long time to play. This game is fun for mom, dad and child and it only takes a maximum of about 20 minutes to play the whole game! We have played the game at least 10 times now and it does not seem repetetive, we keep picking new cards. I think this game will be on our top pick list for years to come!

Bought this for my six year old grandson and his parents play it with him.
They give him extra time if he needs the time to figure out the answer. The object is learning the information. I played it with him and highly recommend Great States Junior.

I have a five year and I wanted her to get familiar with the states in her country. The only way I can get her to listen is to make a game of learning. I thought so much of the game that I ordered 10 to use as birthday presents for either boys or girls. Now, my daughter is learning her states and I have birthday presents without having to shop for each event. As we progress we will graduate to the Great States (senior).

This game is great and is for all different level learners. There are picture and color clues to help kids that can't read yet and it can even challenge older children when the clues are removed. My son is learning a lot about the states in a very fun way.

After all of the great reviews, I had very high expectations for this product. Unfortunately, we played it once when we first purchased it two months ago...and no one has mentioned it since. My husband was bored silly. My 5-year-old and 3-year-old who are game fanatics had a hard time staying in until the end. It's just not very fun, but it IS educational if you can get the kids to play it more than once!
