Book Description

184113578X 978-1841135786 May 18, 2005
This is an account of attempts by the UN Secretariat to settle the Cyprus problem between 1999 and April 2004, based on the author's personal knowledge acquired through involvement as an adviser to the government of Cyprus during those and earlier negotiations under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. It portrays events as they were perceived by one close to Greek Cypriot participants, deals with developments since early 2004, and while not giving a full negotiating history, presents the actions of the parties concerned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thorough review and insight into conflict-resolution, February 24, 2006
This review is from: An International Relations Debacle: The UN Secretary-General's Mission of Good Offices in Cyprus 1999-2004 (Hardcover)
Excellent book for the scholar, researcher and policymaker interested in conflict-resolution. Especially for those interested in the reasons why the Annan Plan for the reunification of Cyprus was bound to fail. It should serve as a guide for how not to conjure, conduct and attempt to enforce foreign policy top-down and nation-building, especially in these turbulent times.
