Great Introductory Text,
By
This review is from: International Relations (Paperback)
This is probably the best International Relations (IR) text out there, and it is a good one too! IR is a hybrid and consequently very large field comprised of myriad sub-fields intersecting at various angles. This book makes sense of this confusion, and does so in an intellectually rigorous fashion. The book is divided into two parts: International Security and International Political Economy. The chapters in these parts introduce the reader to such concepts as power politics, international law, trade, the environment, and the North-South Gap, to name a few. It is a difficult task to sum up the entire field of IR, and Goldstein does not do this. I'm not sure it can be done. But what Goldstein does do is provide the introductory student with a solid grasp of the fundamentals of IR so that s/he can have a solid foundation from which to launch further inquiries. Highly recommended.

An outstanding text in introductory international relations. Gives very good coverage not only to security and power issues but also excellent coverage of international political economy and environmental issues as well. Also gives a short treatment of feminist interpretations of IR.

Intimate International Relations,
This review is from: International Relations, 2006-2007 Edition (7th Edition) (MyPoliSciLab Series) (Paperback)
The book International Relations works to present readers with a broad base of knowledge in a world that is infinitely complex and becoming more global with the passing of each day. If you desire to learn about the current governing bodies in the world today, this book will provide the basis for a life-long study.

The textbook "International Relations" provides an extremely indepth overview of world politics. It's interesting, but definitely not light reading. (At the moment, I'm still trying to get through chapter three.) I highly recommend it for anyone who is thinking of pursuing International Relations at the post secondary level, but would like to learn more about the actual topic first.

I recently bought this book. Its content rocks!! Nonetheless its support website requires some access code that the book DOES NOT include. I contacted several times the editirial company, via chat help and email, and all they do is blame amazon.com for the "loss" of the code. Bottom line is I CANNOT use the support material on the website. Personally, i blame the editorial company for obstaculizing the appropriate use of this resource.

International relations is fascinating but this text is so dry it's hard to really get in to it. Seems more about skimming the surface so you can try to memorize tons of facts, instead of going in depth with anything to make it more meaningful.

This book is very straightforward and ideal for an introductory Political Science course at the college level. Definitions are in bold letters and Goldstein allows readers to follow along with ease.

It's a great textbook but as a student, when a new textbook rolls out every year with minor changes and different examples it doesn't seem quite worth it. If you're already well versed in international relations (either way of Model UN, or high school courses) don't bother buying a new copy. Most professors only use it as a guide. The real fun is in class and in discussion.
