Grand Finale, July 9, 2000
This review is from: International Stars 4 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The last in the N.A. & Int'l Stars series opens with the "Kingdom of the Shades" pas de deux from Bayaderka (La Bayadere) danced by Igor Zelenski and Zhanna Ayupova. It is followed by the pas de deux from The Talisman, with Tatyana Terekhova and Yuri Possokhov.
Rose Gad and Alexander Kolpin of the Royal Danish Ballet then perform the second act Giselle pas de deux. It has a very different look from the Russian Giselles that abound on video, and Rose Gad at times looks uncannily like a 19th century lithograph. I've only seen her on these videos, but I like her very much.
The famous Don Quixote pas de deux, with other solos from the full-length ballet performed by various members of the troupe, closes the program. The lead couple (N.A. and Aleksei Fadeeyechev) give up their usual solos to other dancers (who are listed just as "other dancers"); N.A. does a different spectacular solo; and the coda is given an exciting and entertaining twist. (The "other dancers" include Rose Gad, Alexander Kolpin, Irina Dorofeeva, Vadim Pisarev, Elizabeth Platel, Nicolas Le Riche, Tatyana Terekhova, Yuri Possokhov, Igor Zelenski and Andris Liepa.)
