A Must Have for Green Day Fans,
By Michael Crane (Orland Park, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: International Superhits! (Audio CD)
I don't care what anyone says. Green Day is one of my favorite bands. They are one of the main reasons for me listening to music. I've liked them since sixth grade, and they're still around. They put out great music all the time. Sure, people have given them a hard time, but I really don't see why. They are a great group who can still come up with great songs. This CD is their greatest hits album. It contains many hits, like "Longview," "Basket Case," "Stuck with Me," "Walking Contradiction," and many more. From "Dookie" to "Warning," this CD has it all. There are even two bonus tracks, which are new songs, and one song that you could only get from a movie sountrack. It's too bad that there aren't any songs from the first two albums, but I guess that's because none of them became top hits. Though, they still could've been included somehow. Other than that, this album is pretty much perfect! If you love Green Day, then this CD is for you! It has all of the top hits on it. I'm glad that they finally came out with a greatest hits album. It's about time.

Green Day - International Superhits Review,
By Erich Becker (Tempe, Arizona United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: International Superhits! (Audio CD)
Green Day is one of the most outstanding bands to have ever risen in the music scene. They are the one of a few bands who have stayed true to their roots since their inception early in the 90's filled with Grunge and the leftovers from 80's hair bands. They have stayed true to their style and haven't let market influence and the rapid changing of the music industry effect their outlook.International Superhits is a greatest hits album that features 19 of the bands major-label songs from their four album releases, and two new songs ("Maria," and "Poprocks & Coke"). The CD is laid in in chronological order starting with the bands breakthrough disc Dookie moving into the easily forgettable Insomniac then branching to the catchy Nimrod and finally settling down on the band's latest, and greatest effort, Warning. Looking over the track listing you still see at least six, if not more, songs that you can still hear on the radio today. It just goes to further intensify that Green Day has the staying power to be around long after the they are gone (but let's hope that never happens). Not to be outdone, Green Day also included two new tracks on this "greatest hits" album. The disc's new single, "Maria" is a catch tune that shows that the band hasn't lost their touch. The second new track "Poprocks & Coke," while isn't as catchy as "Maria," is certainly well deserving on this CD. Green Day is one of the greatest bands to hit the mainstay in a long time, and we can only hope that they will continue to produce the same high caliber music we got on their last four CDs. Sure any hardcore fan is going to have all of the CD's that these songs came from, but same yourself some space in your CD player and pick up International Superhits, and have all of those great songs right at your fingertips. -Erich Becker thinks this is the greatest thing since Wadded Beef.

Fun, catchy pop-punk. Nice representation of the band.,

If you're a casual listener or even a diehard fan, I'd get this cd. It's excellent, all the songs are very catchy (Green Day is always catchy). It's just great pop-punk, period. It's a lot better than Blink-182 and Sum41 (although I don't mind them), so I recommend it to fans of those bands too.Maria and Poprocks and Coke are good, although I didn't listen to them as much as the other songs. All of their Dookie hits are great, my favorites include Longview and She. J.A.R, the song from that movie, is a great song and is one of my favorites. My other favorites include Brain Stew, Hitchin' a Ride, Walking Contradiction, Waiting and Warning. It's fun, people. Go out and buy it.

Just the Hits,
This review is from: International Superhits! (Audio CD)
First of all, if you're just getting into Green Day, this is a great album to have, because it shows off all of the sides of their music, and how it has progressed through the years. Their songs are fun, catchy, and very easy to like.
1. Maria- While I admit that I started laughing the first time I heard the introduction, it really is a great way to start off a song. "Maria" is one of two brand-new tracks on the CD, and goes into some political lyrics. (Some foreshadowing, perhaps?) Not their best song, but certainly not bad. 2. Poprocks and Coke- Really, the song has nothing to do with either poprocks or Coke, but the instruments are toned down, it has a nice melody, and is the second of two new songs on the disc. 3. Longview- The song that pushed Green Day into the mainstream, "Longview" is a great track with exceptional bass work by Mike Dirnt, inventive lyrics, and a good melody. 4. Welcome to Paradise- More great bass work, especially in the bass and later bass/guitar solos by Mike and lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. Tempo changes and and good melody make this a solid track. 5. Basket Case- Probably one of my favorite Green Day songs. The lyrics are witty, it has a great melody, and I love how the drums and bass come in halfway through the first chorus. Also great drum work by Tre Cool. 6. When I Come Around- Probably one of the first Green Day songs I heard, I loved it then and still do now. The instruments aren't as hardcore as in some of their other songs, but there is no doubt that the performance of this at Woodstock '94 made them very popular. 7. She- Deeper lyrics than some of thier other early songs, "She" shows us what a mature songwriter Billie Joe can be. The song is quite good, too. 8. J.A.R.- The only track on the CD not penned by Billie Joe (it was written by Mike). While his lyrics may not be as inventive, it is by no means a bad song, and the ending with the bass accompaniment is great. 9. Geek Stink Breath- I have to commend Green Day for writing a song with lyrics this deep and about a subject this serious. The song is about a bad drug habit, and it certainly would convince anyone to stay off of them. Ambitious, but certainly well done. 10. Brain Stew- The instrumentals in this are great, and Billie Joe's changed his voice a bit, but it fits the song and it is very catchy. 11. Jaded- This song tops out at about a minute and a half. Probably the most traditional punk song on the album, short and hyper fast, but it can get tiring just listening to it. 12. Walking Contradiction- The lyrics of this song are wonderful, very inventive, and it showcases what the band is about. 13. Stuck With Me- This song has a good melody, and while some of the lyrics may not be quite as original as other songs, it has a good sound and is very singable. 14. Hitchin a Ride- Another song with great lyrics, it also boasts a good guitar solo and an interesting melody. 15. Time of Your Life (Good Riddance)- Probably the song that most people have heard without realizing who it's actually sung by. This song truly shows what a great, meaningful songwriter Billie Joe can be, and even though it sounds nothing like most of their other stuff, you can't help but love it. 16. Redundant- It has great guitar melodies and the chorus has a good sound, some more good lyrics, too. 17. Nice Guiys Finish Last- I never heard the song before I bought the album, but it's now one of my favorites. Great melody, catchy, fun, and a really good song. 18. Minority- I love the infusion of accordian/harmonica into this song, and the live version is even better. My mom says it sounds like an "Irish drinking song," but I first heard it when I was 12, and I liked it then, and even remembered the words four years later when I hadn't heard it since. 19. Warning- Another catchy song with great lyrics, it isn't as "punk" or heavily instrumentated as some of their earlier songs, but it's still great. 20. Waiting- Probably different than any other song on here, certainly "poppier," it still has a great melody and the instruments are good, too. 21. Macy's Day Parade- A very quiet song for Green Day, it is another of my new favorites. Billie Joe's voice sounds incredible when there are no instruments competing with it, and it's another example of good, mature, songwriting.

Green Day has always been my favorite band.,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: International Superhits! (Audio CD)
I've always loved Green Day, who were at their peak in 1994 and enjoyed many other hits afterwards, including Brain Stew, Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), and Minority. Even with an album that only came out less than two years ago (Warning), Green Day is getting less and less recognition. With newer pop-punk bands such as Blink 182, Sum 41 and New Found Glory becoming more popular, Green Day has been ignored.Let's get to the point. International Superhits is great for the casual listener, or just someone who wants to rediscover them. But unless you desperately want to hear Maria and Poprocks and Coke (which are decent songs), or J.A.R, I wouldn't recommend this to the fan who already has all of their Reprise releases. Unless you want a good cd to listen to all the way through, which this certainly is. The songs are all good! There is not one song I can't listen to...truthfully, there isn't one song I don't like by Green Day. The two new songs, as previously mentioned, are both good...the catchy, but somewhat repetitive Maria, and the poppy love song of Poprocks and Coke, but they're not much compared to the others. You'll get every Green Day hit on this CD, from their first single (and possibly one of their best songs) Longview, to the timeless classic Good Riddance, to the melodic Waiting, the somewhat harsher Geek Stink Breath and Brain Stew, and the lesser known Walking Contradiction and She...they're all here. Green Day is a fun band to listen to, and this is a nice representation of them. One thing that slightly peeved me is that there are no songs from their Lookout releases on here. I can't say I liked 1039 SOSH, but Kerplunk is my second favorite (after Nimrod). Beware! When you buy this, you're not getting the full Green Day experience...there are great songs such as Going to Pasalacqua, 2000 Light Years Away, Christie Road, and many others that aren't on here! Oh yeah, if you want more Green Day, check out all 6 of their albums, you'll find some good songs that weren't played on the radio. They include, but aren't limited to, 86, Stuart and The Ave., Westbound Sign, Scattered, Jinx/Haushinka, Prosthetic Head ... Castaway, and Misery. ... If you're that person who has heard songs like Longview and Good Riddance on the radio and liked them, but has never bought a Green Day release, by all means BUY THIS! Green Day fans with the entire collection, you may not want to get this unless you need something to top it all off or are just mad for the song J.A.R. And J.A.R is a great song.

I gave this album five stars just for the track listing. This album has all of Green Day's hit songs on it minus their new hits off American Idiot. Anyways I usually listen to this album to cheer myself up. Its a nice change from downer grunge. Don't get me wrong i still like Grunge.Once you pop this into your stereo you'll be amazed by how loud every song is. I have had many ppl come up to me and talk to me about music and some of them say oh green day sucks they just whine and screw around on guitar. Green Day's music isn't suppose to be taken seriously. Green day was around in the 90's that was in my opinion the best years for music i there were alot of good sucessful bands out there. You look at the music industry today and things are getting stale again. The nu-metal scene is getting worse every year. The punk bands these days just plain suck they are more pop punk than pure punk. If you don't own this album get it asap!

Green Day is my favorite band!,

Caroline Sinclair has a stick up her "you know where!" She does not know what she is talking about! She probably listens to some oldies junk. OK, but anyway, this is a great CD for any Green Day fan that doesn't want to get their whole collection of Green Day CD's out and listen to them, like myself, who has all their albums, even some imports. I started listening to Green Day a while back, when I bought Kerplunk! Back to the CD. This collection of Green Day songs has all their hits, well, almost all of them. Too bad that there aren't any songs from Kerplunk! or 1039/smooth, but those CD's were recorded while they were on Lookout records, and Green Day is now on Reprise. The CD has all the hits from Dookie, like "Basket Case", "Longview", and "When I come around." The CD also has hits from Green Day's lesser known CD, Insomniac (my personal fav) like "Brain Stew" and "Geek stink breath." The songs from Nimrod are great, like "Hitchin a ride", and the radio friendly "Good riddance(time of your life)" It also has two new b-sides called "Maria" and "Poprocks and coke. The song "J.A.R.", from the Angus soundtrack is also on the CD. It is a great song and it was written by bassist Mike Dirnt. Only four songs from their latest album, Warning, are present on this CD. The best Warning song is "Waiting" and "Minority." The acoustic songs "Warning" and "Macy's day parade" are also on there. This is a CD you can listen to straight through. Every time you listen, you will appreciate and realize how good Green Day is at what they do. You will eventually memorize all the lyrics, like I did, after numerous listenings. I just saw Green Day at the Pop Disaster tour, and it made me like Green Day even more! Don't think, and buy International Superhits!, and enjoy!

What more could a person ask for?,

If you aren't a Green Day fan, it could be hard to remember how many hits this group has actually had. This CD is kicked off with two new songs: Maria, a fast-paced, catchy tune, and Poprocks & Coke, while slower, is still an infectious song. Then it goes into their breakaway hit, Longview. Every hit from their major label albums are there, including my favorite, J.A.R., which was originally released on the Angus Soundtrack. My only complaint is that it didn't include any songs from their first two albums. Paper Lanterns or 2000 Light Years Away would have fit in this CD nicely. Still, this CD is great for anyone, whether you're a superfan (like me), just have a couple of their CDs, or are just starting to listen to them (why only now?). Go buy this album!

Everything a Rock/Punk band should be,
By Jeanette (New England) - See all my reviews

These guys are amazing talents. I've loved their music ever since Dookie, and have since gone back and gotten some of their earlier stuff. You can see (and hear) their growth as writers and musicians, culminating with American Idiot, probably the best rock album in many years. They're brash, naughty, irreverant, they don't toe the company line, everything a rock/punk band should be! By the way, I am a 44-year-old mother of three, two of which are teenagers. I would rather them listen to Green Day, swears and all, (I'm not naiive enough to think they've never heard them before), than Britney/Lindsay etc.

The only reason I could possibly see a real Green Day fan needing this is it has the song "J.A.R". I never bothered to purchase the soundtrack to the movie Angus that they originally released that song on. Other than that this seems to be a mostly re-hash of their hits from the last seven years or so. I guess, hence the name. They do the cheesy thing and slap on two new songs to try to obligate hardcore fans that have all their other records into buying this one. I would expect a little more from the boys. Personally, I would have prefered to see their early work represented on this record to acclimate less familiar fans with pre-"Dookie" era stuff, instead of having any new songs. Green Day classics like "2000 Light Years Away" and "Going to Pasalacqua" are conspicously absent and that's an awful shame for a twelve year old kid buying this thinking he's getting all of Green Day's best songs. Too bad they couldn't reach an arrangement with Lookout! if they even tried at all. I'd like to point out my 3 star rating is in no way indicative of the quality of the music or the songs that they did choose. Don't get me wrong, I love this band. That's why I'm especially disheartened that an album that should be showcasing their best work is actually full of gaping holes.
