This text is superb for extending ones LabVIEW knowledge; we have used this text as our class reference for our LabVIEW Connectivity classes. It begins with the network fundamentals and builds on basic LabVIEW understanding. Enabling LabVIEW to communicate across the network is important for Laboratory Information Systems for end users. The example problems work through basic client-server programming structure in LabVIEW, covering single and multiple client servers. This is very useful for an application that is distributed across a facilities network.

The DataSocket examples are helpful to get running using National Instruments newest technology. These features make Internet communication very accessible to even newer users.

The text end with some sophisticated examples of remote control over the web using ActiveX and Java in conjunction with LabVIEW.

This text is a great resource for LabVIEW users.

With 10+ years of LabVIEW programming experience I found Jeff's book to be an excellent and compact source of internet and network applications in LabVIEW. The background was excellent and not overly in depth. The sample programs on the CD consumed hours of my time examining all the great examples it contained. My copy is littered with underlines, highlights and post-it notes marking the good spots! (he should have simply printed the pages in yellow paper!)

For LabVIEW programmers it's an excellent timesaver for internet info and apps in LabVIEW.

this book is dense and packed with more information than you probably will use, but i gave it five stars because it does have everything you need, theory and examples, for controlling your vis over the web. you learn to use java and activex, step-by-step.

with the software and examples in this book, i was able to set up a web browser control of my chemistry lab.

By providing the ability to access any computer anywhere, the Internet certainly simplifies the tasks of remotely controlling and monitoring data acquisition and/or instrument control systems. The combination of LabVIEW and the Internet opens up innumerable opportunities for instrumentation, and Internet Applications in LabVIEW is the only book yet to explain them.

This book gives detailed insight into the tools provided by LabVIEW to optimize Internet use, and it provides very easy methods to complete complex tasks.

The author provides a number of his own programs, tips, and tricks that you can use to build your own applications. The included CD also contains instructional exercises, solutions, examples, and handy utilities. The author used this book as the basis for creating the "official" LabVIEW Internet course offered by Compuware Corporation and National Instruments (the creators of LabVIEW).

The book contains information for Internet newbies and seasoned programmers alike, and strikes a good balance between background detail and extensive real-world applications. Highly recommended!

This book provided me with much more knowledge than I expected when I bought it. It covers networking and internet basics and explains technologies such as TCP, IP, and UDP for a beginner a well as the various networking tools provided by LabVIEW in detail. It is a perfect mix of background and general info with LabVIEW detail. This is definitely a great book to get into networked apps with.

This book filled in the gap for me on many questions I had about Web servers, security, Web pages, etc. Great resource.

Although targeted toward LabVIEW users, Jeff's explanations of Internet protocols and concepts would be invaluable to anyone trying to get a basic grasp of Internet technology. His easy-going writing style breaks heavy content into manageable doses and his "peppered in" humor makes those doses even easier to take. As a technical writer and webmaster, I consider this book a "must have" for my library.

With 10+ years programming in LabVIEW this book was very useful and on the mark with explaining internet technologies. Well worth the money in time you'd spend looking for this info all over the net.

This book contains only very basic concepts and $55 doesn'tworth it at all. One of the best ways to learn how to control yourinstruments online is by looking at the examples that are included with the Internet Toolkit of Labview. The examples that are in this book are just the modified versions of the National Instruments examples.
