Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

The One Step at a Time series claims to offer the most complete software tutorials ever to hit a bookshelf. This book on Microsoft Internet Explorer lives up to its promise. Witherspoon and Kasser do a fine job of explaining Internet Explorer 4 in 14 simple lessons that cover four levels of accomplishment.

The first section provides an overview of the software and lessons on setting it up, while the second section offers lessons in browser basics. The third and fourth parts cover more advanced browser use and communications tools for both basic and advanced use of e-mail, newsgroups, Microsoft chat, Internet telephony, and Web page creation.

What makes the One Step at a Time system so special, though, is its four-way approach to teaching. The book is an excellent step-by-step guide to the program all on its own, but it really shines when used in combination with the three other approaches on the enclosed CD-ROM. The CD-ROM enables you to experience every lesson in three modes. A Demo Mode lets you view a task much as you'd watch an educational movie. The Teacher Mode walks you through a software simulation without activating Internet Explorer. Finally, the Concurrent Mode runs the actual software while systematically guiding you through it. --Elizabeth Lewis
