Other features include the full Associated Press Policy for Using Electronic Services, a comprehensive glossary of terms, and numerous lists of professional and general interest Web sites.

Editorial Reviews

Review

A book that every journalist should have right next to the mouse and the monitor. Simple but effective, packed with nuggets of tips and tools with none of that geek speak or Net hyperbole -- Julian Sher, Webmaster, Investigative Journalism on the Internet; Television Producer, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

The Handbook does a nice job of walking the line between the non-user who wants to get into electronic reporting...and the experienced Web crawler who just needs more addresses to try out. Two things about this book impressed me immediately: Its smarts and its honesty....The material on search engines is very valuable in itself, but for me the best stuff was in the tips on using engines and metasearch tools to pull in material. This is what serious journalists need most to know about the Net--how to find data they can use in stores -- Jim Cunningham, Media, Fall 1997

The authors demystify the process of finding, evaluating, and using Internet resources in a handy guide specifically geared to the needs of writers, researchers, and journalists. This book will connect you with invaluable sources and save your time, whether you are a novice to the Internet or a seasoned user. Highly recommended -- Catherine Ross, Acting Dean, Faculty of Communications and Open Learning, University of Western Ontario, Canada

This is a very fine book; a solid reference....Frankly, I started reading it and couldn't put it down. I am a computer nut, an early adopter, and use the Internet all the time. Nevertheless, I learned a lot -- Lowndes F. Stephens, Professor of Journalism and Mass Communications, University of South Carolina

From the Back Cover

"Most writers, researchers, and journalists these days have good enough Internet skills to muddle through and grab the stuff they need online. But 'good enough' is a far cry from'great.' This book will help readers become truly Internet-savvy. The authors put great skills within our grasp without talking down to readers and without being preachy." (Steven S. Ross, Associate Professor of Professional Practice and New Media Center Associate, Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well-written but out-of-date and not worth the money, March 17, 1998
By A Customer
Though well-written and thorough, I found many links and/or suggestions to be out of date already. Provides good advice about mailing lists, but I think there are better books at a much lower price out there.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing, July 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Internet Handbook for Writers, Researchers, and Journalists (Paperback)
If you've been too long surfing the Internet, the Handbook seems obvious. There's nothing for the intermediate or advanced Net user.
