Book Description

November 1, 2008
Using the very latest in Pageturn technology, this full-color spoof of everyone’s favorite information-superhighway-thingie redraws the world wide web via the most cutting edge of gadgets—a book. All 144 pages are stuffed with narcissistic bloggers, ultra-geeks, and desperate online daters. The result is funny and scary, clever and crude, dark and absurd. Recommended "sites" to visit include Notbitch—the world's nicest gossip site, Bullies Reunited—relive your teenage days of beating people up for money, Poormatch.com—the world's worst dating site, and Porn for girls by girls—hardcore social lunch with the parents, and roughly taken on a romantic weekend! So dump that PDA, grandpa, drown your mouse, and dropkick your iPhone into a nearby pond. Portable and wireless, with no battery required and 95% virus free, the internet in a book provides the traditional internet pleasures of surfing, stalking, and having your credit card details stolen, all at the turn of a page!

5.0 out of 5 stars Click on this pastiche, December 23, 2009
This review is from: The Internet Now in Handy Book Form! (Paperback)

Buyers should know that this was originally published in the UK in 2007 and a lot of the satirical material obviously relates to the internet over there.

David McCandless and crew have really done their homework because this is a visual treat to look at. Websites are generally a mixture of photos, graphics and words in different colors and types and if you want to make fun of them you better make sure they look convincing and in this book they are really impressive. The page you are reading right now is sort of in the book as Amasszone with the right types, colors and layout and is the page for the book: 'Notes from the Superhighway' by Bill Bison. The UK daily The Guardian ends up as PreserverLimited and looking of course just like the papers real website site. For the ladies check out justByou, YouTube fans click into YouFlue and everyone's favorite search engine Bahoogle gets a brilliant five pages.

So it all looks like the real thing, how does it read? As classy as it looks. The word mavens have avoided the easy lads mag route (which I always thought was one of the big let downs in most illustrative UK humor books) and delivered some quality satirical writing.

So the thing to do is scroll up this page and click on Add to Shopping Basket and shortly you'll get some fun stuff courtesy of a few cut down trees.

I first heard about this book in the UK, and was glad to find a copy in the US. Standard parody material, but it's great to browse through and will certainly be interesting to look back on a few decades from now when we all have internet implanted in our eyeballs.
