Over the last few years, I have seen so many of my favorite bloggers and new websites become popular enough that their owners have quit their day jobs, and I always wondered how they got their ideas or how they got started. I want what they have, but I had no idea how to get there from here.
Fox's book was just the kick in the pants I needed. I am very familiar with the computer and the internet, but am low on techy skills, inspiration, and knowledge about how to build an online business. This book was awesome because he details what others have done to achieve success, the steps one must take and the work involved in each kind of online business, the different types of business and what business model is most suitable each kind. Then, in addition to all that, he provides the questions and inspiration needed to jog our own thoughts about what we might be passionate or knowledgeable enough about to start a business, and has such perfect memory and inspiration jogs that I went from not having any ideas to having too many to reasonably act on immediately. He focuses on all the different kinds of e-business, so you don't need an item to sell or a particular idea in mind to get started with this book. Rather, this book is perfect for those who have some interest in owning their own online business but need to know more about what exactly it entails and how one would make a business like this profitable. I tried the Dummies book on this topic and was sorely disappointed - it felt like a big advertisement through the whole book, and didn't really give me any of the tools I needed to get going or to inspire me with a new idea to act on. I'd recommend Fox's book instead, as the first book to read if you are thinking of starting an online business.

Good basic information on making money online,
This review is from: Internet Riches: The Simple Money-Making Secrets of Online Millionaires (Paperback)
I'd never heard of Scott Fox before, but from what I read in the book, he's been quite successful at making money online. He's worked with some big names so it appears he knows what he's talking about.
The book spends most of the time covering the nuts and bolts of choosing a subject area (niche), determining its feasibility to make money, creating a web site and making the big bucks. He uses lots of case studies of people who are currently making money online, which is very useful. I finished the book optimistic, but still a bit vague on the next action step. I'm in a bit of analysis paralysis, which he actually discusses briefly in the book. It's where you spend so much time planning and preparing to make money and learning to avoid all the pitfalls that you never take action. The book has given me some more ideas on how to make money, and I plan to refer back to it in the future as I take action. If you're unfamiliar with how people make money online, it's a great book to help you learn. If you already know about the general methods of making money like drop shipping, selling on eBay, product development, affiliate marketing, digital information products (aka eBooks), then you probably won't find anything new.

Better than you'd think from the title! Really!,

Give this one a chance in spite of the title. It really does break down the different types of web sites (and hybrid-types) that make money. And after such "what do I do on the net?" fundamentals, it does add simple, inexpensive nuts and bolts to get ideas up to speed almost immediately. Examples throughout, as well as specific resource recommendations. Good for confidence, as it reveals that internet money-making is neither rocket science nor spam hype.

I found this book to be one of the best books out there on this subject. (And I've read numerous books and ebooks on this subject.) Not only is this book inspirational, Scott gives concrete examples of successful internet businesses out there. He also asks good probing questions to get you to think about how you can create a niche for yourself online. His book is informative and helpful for anyone who wants to seriously build a business for themselves online. I wish I would have bought this book sooner. Well worth the purchase!

Not recommended if you have any experience,
This review is from: Internet Riches: The Simple Money-Making Secrets of Online Millionaires (Paperback)
This book was very disappointing for me.
After reading some Amazon's reviews about Internet Riches, I decided to purchase it. I don't know why, but most of them say great things about this book. To sum up the "secret" content... 1. You don't need a lot of money to start your internet business. 2. There are 3 types of e-businesses: service, product and niche ones. 3. Some very basic content about finding a domain, a web host, and a designer. 4. And finally the book says you should use e-mail marketing and AdWords pay-per-click. That's it. Those are the "money-making secrets of online millionares". Wow, huh. If you've read anything about making money online you should already know those things. There's much better material online on blogs and on free pdf reports. Save your money for something else. I know people will say "oh, but that's a book for beginners". Alright, but even if you haven't read anything about online businesses before, there are definitely LOTS of better products for beginners out there.

Quick, clear and fun,

Having read many books on startups, this one "cuts to the chase." All the resources, the "secrets," were all usefull and up to date for the real world.
Also, the heavy emphasis on keeping your budget low, not signing up for long contracts, made it easy and enjoyable starting my on-line sites.

Best Book on how to start your own Website,
By
This review is from: Internet Riches: The Simple Money-making Secrets of Online Millionaires (Hardcover)
I am a little more than Half way through the book and loving every page. I am Not an Avid reader but this book is a page turner. I am compelled to start my own website to see if I will generate any income. Mr. Fox is not selling me a get rich quick scheme which I find very admirable. He also indicates ways to start and test a web site at very low costs to see if they are the right ones for you. The number one thing I can say I've learned about this book is that I do not need to be a tech guru to try and make money on the internet. I am hoping upon completing this book that I create an interesting website and does generate a supplemental income enough to feel like a millionaire. I heard about Internet Riches online while doing my own research to make additional income on Amazon. I read the reviews and was impressed that no one and anything negative to say about this book. I was even more impressed when I read that Mr. Fox takes you through a step by step process of building a website. That lead me to believe that this is not your typical self help books with loads of feel good scenarios which is not what I need right now. I needed a book that could be a guide me on what to do first, second, third, and see me to the end. From what I have read thus far Internet Riches Seems to be doing just that. While reading the books I would check out the website included in the text and they all look to be reputable sites with valid content, solid sale pitches and excellent merchandise. So the seller for me was the reviews I read on Amazon, Barns and Nobles, and other review website. With so many people saying so many positive things I felt compelled to read the book and see if it would work for me. I guess I will keep you posted with future progress.

I can sense the reason behind the popularity of this book. It gives you ideas that sound simple and are perhaps easy to implement but it does not indicate in any sense how to achieve them. A small example is to say I need to set up a website to sell my products. The author gives reasonable number of success stories and how they fitted with the need of a select group of people that were not served in the society. And then in few chapters he shows you how to build your website in a simple set up using templates provided by the web host providers etc. So far, so good. But, the practical problem I faced is how does one proceed from here. If I need to make a website that needs to sell my products, how does one set up an online store to sell them. What goes towards setting up a receiving purchase orders, accounting for it, and shipping it. If I need to set up a website to have a forum for people of certain tastes/hobbies etc. to come together, how does one do that. There are no instructions for that. I believe this book will only help you to generate some ideas about what type of business you can set up online. But in my case, I already had few to start with. What I was looking for was how to get to the level where one can start using the nuts and bolts of creating an ebusiness. I suppose I am disappointed at that end.
This book is a feel good book. It tries to motivate you to start your own internet based business. Nothing wrong about it, but it does not solve any particular problems. From a certain perspective, for me it read like those small handbooks on how to find your inner happiness or manage time effectively or some such sort. To be honest, I was bit mislead by the title of money making secrets and I assumed there was more to the fact than just putting up a website mentioned in this book. I am sure there is more to it because right now I am still stuck with a website, a web host and no online store. I am not sure if people would buy this book to get only ideas about what business they can start and not care about how to take it from start to finish. If you are like me who can "observe" success stories online and need help to only start it, this book may not serve you. If you need ideas on starting new business online (and I am not sure why you cannot get this info online if you can critically study websites that sell different products) then maybe this book is for you. Anyways, if you are searching for a book to set up a store online etc, look somewhere else. This book is only basic in that regards.

Take the Plunge,
By
This review is from: Internet Riches: The Simple Money-making Secrets of Online Millionaires (Hardcover)
I enjoyed reading this book. My initial fear was that it was another shallow get rich quick book, but I found that not to be the case. It helped get my creative juices flowing about other ways to make a living. I appreciated the real world examples he uses throughout the book to convey the vast number of opportunities that are available to make money online. It kept me engaged and allowed me to identify whether his ideas would fit my life.
I have a background in web development and software sales, so the sections about how to choose a domain name, build a website and other web related services were not of great interest to me. However, I can see how they would be of value to someone that has had little exposure to the internet and or software. The only criticism is the marketing section is a little thin. But, then again, there are plenty of books that delve into that subject in great detail. This book inspired me to take the plunge in areas I had not thought of before.

A great crash course,

This review is from: Internet Riches: The Simple Money-Making Secrets of Online Millionaires (Paperback)
Scott Fox covers everything in this how-to book on starting your own internet business. Parts 1 and 2 start with brainstorming business ideas and researching them to be sure they're viable and moves on to explain different business models and how these relate to the ideas you've just brainstormed.
In Part 3, Fox explains the technologies behind the website(s) you are about to build and makes recommendations for how to do it cost effectively. He shows you how to choose a domain name, build a website, and develop "content" (all of the written material on your site). Part 4 is the best section in my opinion. It's all about marketing and driving business to your site whether you have no budget, a small budget, or a real budget. And what good is having a fabulous site if no one knows about it, right? Part 5 covers legal stuff and, as expected, is a bit drier than the rest of the book. But it covers important ground and Fox does it in a straightforward and easy to understand way. One other thing about the whole "millionaire" thing in the title that others have commented on: Fox's point is that even if you're not making millions in your new e-commerce business, you can still live like a millionaire. How? By living on your terms and working when and how you want. And maybe you only make $500k or even only $250k so you're not actually a millionaire. But you know what? The average person isn't making that working 40, 50, 60, or 70 hour weeks working for someone else. I'd absolutely recommend this book to anyone who needs the kick in the butt necessary to start their own thing. Fox's style is simple and easy to understand, but at the same time encouraging and motivating as hell. |
