4.0 out of 5 stars straightforward lessons about the Internet, April 8, 2007
This review is from: Internet Safety Young Readers' Guide (Paperback)
The book targets the primary school student, mostly in grades 4-7. Its pedagogy is to walk through a series of short activities, that suggest safe Internet usage. Each activity is kept quite short. Reflecting a possible limited attention span by the student. Thus, an activity is described in just a few paragraphs. Doing all the lessons/activities should be only a few hours for the diligent reader.

The tasks vary interestingly. Possibly jarringly to some students. One early task is to colour in some pictures. For the average student, this is at the most at the level of grade 4. Frankly, many readers within grades 4-7 will have left this behind. Later tasks in the book are more suited to this age range. But those early activities are potentially offputting. This is not an idle esthetic point I'm making. A student of any age does not like to be perceived as doing lessons better suited for younger students. A self esteem issue familiar to many teachers. Yes, the book tries to go from simple lessons about the Internet to more complex ones. However, the nature of the first lessons is perhaps not optimal.
