Essinger is unapologetically pro-Internet--on the first page of the introduction, he writes "The Internet revolution benefits everybody." Oh, it does? Despite this, or possibly because of it, his writing is clear, focused, and on track, as are the chapters contributed by Robert Coles and Paul Graham. Covering the nature of e-business, behavioral determinants of crime, investigation, authentication, and public keys, the book quickly lays out the elements of online trust. Including sections written by security consultants from powerhouses like Deloitte & Touche, the book offers confidence that these issues are well understood and manageable. Though not all of the proposed solutions are easy, a concerted effort by well-informed management staff can avoid catastrophic losses of cash and, more importantly, consumer trust. --Rob Lightner
