Internet Radio- computer needed? Onkyo says unit is "network capable." Does this mean receiver is merely an amplified speaker for my computer, or can it receive and play web radio on its own, so long as wifi is available, with no computer on?
It recieves internet radio all on its own. Some apps are free(pandora, slacker) and others you need a premium account(spotify, last.fm, XM) But the really really slick feature is once you have it networked you can connect to its webpage and add radio stations off the web if you know the URL. It will M3u, RSS(podcasts) and another one I can't remember right now. The vtuner app already has tons of station you can search for. It also has DNLA so you can listen to anything you have shared via windows media player on the local network. Ipod works great on the front USB but the onscreen display is a little slow but if you use a lot of playlists you should be happy. One problem I haven't figured out yet is when I use my portable USB drive. It likes to play every song twice. The USB drive also has a pokey menu. If you are a heavy user of internet radio you will be very happy though.
