This book's greatest strength might be its authors' assumption of compartmentalized knowledge among their readers. The authors have (correctly) organized their work around the idea that someone who knows, for example, IP addressing rules backwards and forwards might not know much at all about the telephony services that local-exchange carriers (LECs) sell. As a result of this editorial decision, chapters are technically deep, but easy to get into. Numerous conceptual diagrams clarify hard-to-visualize phenomena, while frequent references to RFCs (and other standards documents) facilitate primary research where the reader requires it. This latest edition reflects changes to the Cisco data-networking product line as of the last quarter of 2000. --David Wall
Topics covered: Everything Cisco Systems does to facilitate the efficient flow of data among hosts on networks big and small, except those products that have to do with Voice over IP (VoIP). Beginning with the essentials of internetworking, and proceeding through LAN and WAN protocols, multiservice access technologies like digital subscriber line (DSL), switching and bridging (with emphasis on virtual LANs), and routing protocols, this book covers the state of the Cisco Systems art.
- Written by Internetworking leader-Cisco Systems, Inc. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Good buy,
By vamsi kiran (FOLSOM, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Internetworking Technologies Handbook (3rd Edition) (Hardcover)
This book concisely and succintly explains all Internetworking (LAN ,WAN) concepts in a way useful to the novice and also serves as a ready reference to the experienced professional. The print is also pleasing to the eye. However this compendium is a collection of all the Cisco Tutorials on the website.ALso many technologies are dealt with at a cursory level and the treatment could have been more in depth. But to sum up,a good buy.

A must for the CCIE written exam 350-001,
By A Customer
This review is from: Internetworking Technologies Handboook, 2e (Paperback)
Covers all the necessary material for the CCIE written examination. ISDN, Frame Relay, IP Multicast, ISIS and more. Would recommend using this book for clarification purpose. Two other books that should be purchased along with this book are Internetworking with TCP/IP, ISBN: 0132169878 and Gigabit Ethernet, ISBN: 0139132864. If you understand the material from these books then you have adequately prepared for the CCIE qualification examination.

Internetworking Technologies Handbook, Volume 2,
By Clinton R. Fitch (Dallas, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Internetworking Technologies Handboook, 2e (Paperback)
While somewhat technical in nature, I have found this handbook to be a most valuable resource. The clearly defined terms and simple diagrams make this a must have for those in the ever-changing world of Cisco networking environments.
