This was the LONGEST the MOST FUN games I have ever played! And, mind you, I am not an easy customer (feel free to browse through all my reviews, you will see what I mean...)

The original BG series was excellent in all of storyline, gameplay, music and stability. Now, nowadays, sequels usually mean a graphically-improved expansion (at best). BG2 is a rare exception of the sequel clearly SURPASSING the original. And in the case of such great original, this means a lot!

Words fail to describe the perfect harmony of brilliant ideas, emerging story-line and detailed coding that makes this game an unsurpassable classic! This COLLECTION contains all the sequels, patched with the latest fixes. Do not let the slightly outdated graphics discourage you. They were cutting edge only some years ago - and you will be able to unleash their full potential even on mid-range PCs!

I have yet to meet anyone who has played it and not raved about it! Hard-core D&D funs will find the character building, fighting checks and balances and overall experience very close to the actual pen-&-paper games.
Casual computer gamers will notice none of the tedious stuff of other cRPGs as the gameplay runs smooth and beautifully.
You even have the choice to turn it into either a turn-based or an action game by tweaking the auto-pause options! I am telling you: this is how computers games should be!

You will let yourself get lost in the deep dungeons of the labyrinthic story; you will be laughing out loud to the humorous dialog; you will be surprised as to who is a double and triple-agent.
There is an evil beyond imagining unleashed and only you with your party can stand in its way.
Party members offer a multitude of unpredictable balancing points and diverging story-lines of their own: side quests, conflicts and love affairs enrich the story in so many original ways!

As shown on box, each game is compiled onto one disc (no more worrying about prompt screens, "Please insert disc x" every 20 minutes. Although you do have to switch between the expansion and regular disc. For example, when I start it up it wants the Sword Coast expansion. When I load to play, it wants the original. But hey, at least they cut out 90% of the annoying switching.

Does not come with booklets. Just the four CD's in the box, all in white protector sleeves. The CD art is good quality, however.

If you were ever one of those people who loved the pen and paper version of dungeons and dragons you owe it to yourself to pick up these games. They are STILL the best role playing games. With this collection you will have countless hours of entertainment (100+ hrs easily). The storyline of this series is one of the best. graphically, it is dated, but still works on a Windows 7 64bit OS. I've had no issues with the games and they still to this day run flawlessly. BG1 is available on [...] for $[...] USD digitally, but I prefer a hard copy of these games. Amazon was quick on delivery and I had no issues in the packaging.

This is probably my favorite PC game ever. I have played both games, both expansions so many times. Every time you change things up even a little bit - different class for your PC, different party members, NO party members, taking different options in dialogue - you see something new. And the dialogue! Some of the best writing you'll ever see in a game. And none of that includes the wealth of third-party mods.

If you have a short attention span and feel like something's missing when your screen isn't splattered with gore, this is not the game for you. This is a long, intricate, beautifully-written plot, with great replay value even after you know all the twists.

My only problem with the BG series is my tendency to misplace a disk, and with them now on DVD and neatly packaged together even this is no longer an issue.

I never had the chance to play these games so I ordered them about a month ago, I have a new pc with Win 7 so I was worried about being able to get this game running on a new pc after reading so many forums where people were having trouble. I installed the 1st game in less than 5 minutes and it worked on the 1st try and has worked everytime since with no problems!!! Works perfect on my new Windows 7, there are a couple of draw backs, the game no longer supports updates or even the manual so you will have to dig around online if you want that stuff as well, I never played these games so a manual would make it so so much easier. All and all I'm very happy with the purchase and I am very much enjoying the games.

This game, along with about four or five others (thief, deus ex, homam2, ff7, jedi knight), are the only really good single-player computer games.

Why is Baldur's gate so high up there? Huge game world full--really full--of things for your character to do or not do with plenty of consequences either way, tons of characters to interact with, some very difficult and challenging sequences, and huge replay value for the wide variety of characters the game lets you create. It even has a fairly good-quality story to go along with it.

Get this game from whatever source you can.

If you buy this and think to compare it with NWN or Dragon Age, don't. These are not graphics intensive but are still gorgeous old style RPG play modes. The music soundtracks are much more extensive and professional than the newer dumbed down soundtracks for the kiddie consoles.
The AI fights are the best part. This set the standard like I said and you can pause the game any time with the space bar. Then give separate specific commands to each of your six characters you will have, not counting summoned creatures. Trust me, if you play on normal mode you will be seriously challenged unlike the newer RPGs.
The spells are better and more class specific, unlike the the newer RPGs that many spells are cast by anyone. Not so in these games and that makes it much better.
I do like one thing in the newer RPGs that this does not have is crafting and modifying your weapons.
This is worth much more than the price considering it could take you several hundred hours to get through this package.

I have been playing this game for almost a year and have only started the second of the four dvds. There are so many things to do and places to go. I would recommend reading a walkthrough for this game. This is a very good game to learn how to play mage. I have never played as a mage before, but to be competetive in this game one of your characters will need to use spells.
