Biography

From the highly melodic “Barricade” and “Lights” through the snarling “Memory Serves” and the extraordinary triptych of connected tracks that close the album, Interpol have never made work this emotionally resonant or packed with crescendos. Mixer Alan Moulder has brought the rhythm section back to the fore, anchoring a thicket of orchestral sound that brings to mind touchstones from black metal… Read more in Amazon's Interpol Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Great e.p. - great price., July 26, 2002
This review is from: Interpol (Audio CD)
Great e.p., for the right price. I'd pay the money just for "P.D.A." The full length CD will be released in August, but for now, buy this e.p. By the way, I can understand why people reference Joy Division when speaking of Interpol, but let me be the first to mention (at least in this forum) that these guys are the spitting aural image of the Chameleons UK. And that's a good thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Hundred Couches?, July 8, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Interpol (Audio CD)
After hearing all of these new bands copping moves and fashions from people who could be their grandfathers I've grown a little sickened -- how many waifish boys in sharp clothes discovering vinyl for the first time can one take? But Interpol is changing my mind. Sure, they listen to a lot of Joy Division (and Galaxie 500, for that matter), but it all feels somehow renewed, rather than rehashed...I've been listening to the same three songs on this Interpol EP with increasing fascination. If the full-length meets the standards of these three songs, we just might have something worth getting ecstatic about.

4.0 out of 5 stars All hail the second coming of 80s alternative rock, June 17, 2002

Dave P (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Interpol (Audio CD)
This is fantastic Joy Division influenced pop from NYC, moody with high emotional drama and some really good songs. A few years ago a band a sound steeped in 80s melodic postpunk would not have been taken seriously (e.g., Stretch Princess). But with the emergence of bands such as The Strokes, The White Stripes, The Hives, and The Mooney Suzuki, the grunge/indie/emo logjam has finally been shattered. I eagerly look forward to the full-length in August!
