4.0 out of 5 stars Una preciosa voz para un gran compositor, February 24, 2000
This review is from: Interpreta a Agustin Lara / Prisionero Del Mar (Audio CD)

5.0 out of 5 stars la voz de amor, December 18, 2002
This review is from: Interpreta a Agustin Lara / Prisionero Del Mar (Audio CD)
Javier Solis has the smoothest voice I have ever heard, and this "2 in 1" CD is a coupling of two of his wonderful LPs.
The first 12 tracks feature the music of the great Agustin Lara (1896-1970), who though he did not invent the bolero (Cuban Pepe Sanchez, who wrote "Tristeza" in 1883 is given credit for that), was the one to give it world-wide popularity. One of Mexico's most prolific composers, with 600 songs, he was known as "El Musico Poeta", and the selections on this CD are excellent examples of his creativity.

The following 12 songs were writen by Luis Arcaraz (1910-1963), a Mexican bandleader/songwriter whose music was very popular in the 40's and 50's.
Solis must have been in better voice while recording this Prisionero del Mar LP, as he has a slightly fuller sound and is more expressive in this second half of the CD.

Solis died at the peak of his fame at age 34, in 1966, and left us a legacy of magnificent music. This compilation is a treasure for his fans, and the sound is acceptable for recordings of this era. there are no liner notes, and the total time is 66'00.
This is music for love and romance, sung by one of the best singers Mexico has given the world.
