Interracial Dating in America - Uncovered (2007) [Leon's Rating: 3.50],
This review is from: Interracial Dating In America (DVD)
"Interracial Dating in America" is a 2 hrs. and 30 min. documentary about interracial dating in America. This documentary mostly consists of groups of people being interviewed, discussing their take on interracial relationships. The people who are interviewed for this documentary are white men and women, as well as black men and women. There are no Asians or Latin people interviewed at all. Apparently, of all of the interracial dating that takes place throughout America, white and black couples are seen as the most risqué and eye-raising. The issues that are discusses are the cultural differences between blacks and white, what they will and will not tolerate, the difficulties that interracial couples face from their society, their race of people and their families, biracial children, family life and what each individual looks for in a mate. So, basically, this documentary covers only the basics of interracial relationships. There is some profanity and a few sexual depictions used, but you won't hear too much of that until the last half of the documentary. A lot of frank discussions won't be explained until we see a woman named Donna (who was recently on The Morning Show with Mike & Juliet; the subject being interracial relationships) and a black man who admitted that his attraction to white women was birthed from some pornography viewing at 12 years of age and getting oral sex from a white female at 17, while working at a fast food restaurant. This man also discusses the basics of how the fear of black male sexuality is a breeding ground for racial profiling (D.W.B. - or in other words, "Driving While Black").
This was a good documentary to watch. However, I strongly feel that this documentary isn't as heavy as it should have been. The current state of interracial relationships are a lot more deeper and darker than what's being talked about here. In fact, it's light, with sexuality only being discussed a few times (including the fear of the black penis). I do applaud the fact that there is no time being wasted on outmoded statistics about the sex ratio between black men and black women. Most of the people interviewed are well-to-do people and prestigious people. As stated on the front cover of the documentary's artwork, these are all real people being interviewed, discussing real (but mostly light) situations. Aside from the DVD, included is a soundtrack for this documentary.

How is this possible?,

How is it possible in todays society that people STILL JUDGE others by the color of their skin and refer to themselves as CHRISTIANS? This film demonstrates just how hypocritcal the human race can be. CClay's interviews show us that love is alive and well in the U.S. and it has many different forms as well as colors. No longer is interracial dating a scandalous secret hidden from our families and friends. The real life stories in this film depicts the true ignorance that still exists today, sad but true. I love this film and the soundtrack JAMS. I bought several copies....

This video was on point as far as how people from various backgrounds really feel about dating outside of ones race.
