This review is from: Interrogations And Disputed Confessions: A Manual for Forensic Psychological Practice (Paperback)
Interrogations and Disputed Confessions: A Manual for Forensic Psychological Practice by Gregory DeClue, Ph.D., ABPP is one of those works that is impressive, not only for its comprehensive coverage of the topic of interrogations and confessions in the criminal arena, but also for the clarity with which it is presented and the immediacy of its practical application to the work of those professionals interested in this area. A resource that meticulously presents a complex area of professional interest in a manner that is at once both complete and concise, while maintaining a never wavering focus on delivering factual explanations of the components constituting the process of modern techniques of interrogation, in tandem with Dr. DeClue's highly accessible presentation of the many psychological mechanisms at work in the interrogation room. The reader is provided with relevant case law outlining the Court's opinions on what factors are most salient when evaluating the veracity of a "voluntary" confession, as well as an uncommonly clear model for forensic psychological practice. Truly a manual that belongs in the library of all forensic psychologists and forensic psychiatrists who interface with the criminal Courts, as well as defense attorneys who wish to enhance their knowledge base and incorporate a skill set that will assist them in better representing a subset of their clients whose confessions warrant a closer look. This volume will likely serve as the standard work in the field for some time to come.

This review is from: Interrogations And Disputed Confessions: A Manual for Forensic Psychological Practice (Paperback)
This book is an essential resource for any psychologist or other mental health professional who conducts evaluations when there is a disputed confession or a question concerning the competence to waive Miranda rights. It is an invaluable resource for criminal defense attorneys as well as for anyone who wants to understand coerced and nonvoluntary confessions. I recommend it highly.

This review is from: Interrogations And Disputed Confessions: A Manual for Forensic Psychological Practice (Paperback)
This is simply the best book available on disputed confessions and the psychology of interrogations. The author provides a thorough but readable overview of models of interrogations and false confessions, as well as a practical guide to performing assessments in this growing area of forensic practice.
