Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I am a connoisseur of duct tape and like wine and cigars not all duct tape is the same. Having used many different brands of duct tape for many different purposes I find Intertape Polymer Group IG235 Iron Grip Duct Tape to be average at best. It is not the premier version of duct tape. It is not a fine wine or a Cuban cigar. Unfortunately, the adhesive quality of this tape is far from optimal. I put this tape through a host of uses and found that it does not stick as well as it should. This tape is good for "light" duty tasks and not 1000 MPH tasks that need to work under adverse conditions. If you want to seal a box this tape is fine. If you are looking for high speed, low drag then look elsewhere.

Duct tape has a reputation for fixing anything. Duct tape makes you feel like MacGyver where you can get out of any situation. This is a big task to live up to and the duct tape you use must perform. Having used many different brands of duct tape the one that I rely on under any condition is Gorilla Tape 1.88-Inch by 35-Yard Tape Roll which has great adhesive properties and is reinforced.

Overall Assessment:

Intertape Polymer Group IG235 Iron Grip Duct Tape is a light duty tape. There are better quality options available. For me, I would not purchase this tape. I'm sticking with Gorilla Tape 1.88-Inch by 35-Yard Tape Roll. Iron Grip fails to live up to its name.

Everybody is going to compare this to Gorilla tape. So let's do that:

Thickness, width, length, color (all identical):
Gorilla 17mil, 1.88in, 35yds, black
Iron Grip 17mil, 1.88in, 35yds, black

Gorilla doesn't provide specs of their own for Gorilla tape, so the numbers below are third party numbers, but are from multiple independent sources and consistent with many test results from different sources. The Iron Grip numbers from from Intertape themselves.

Tensile strength (winner Gorilla):
Gorilla 80lb/in
Iron Grip 44lb/in

Adhesion to steel (winner Gorilla)
Gorilla 90oz/in
Iron Grip 60oz/in

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Due to the number of types of this product that are available, I am assuming that the world of making duct tape is highly competitive. In the last half century, I have used many brands and many types and have bought many more rolls than have actually been used due to some feature of this product that causes anything less than half a roll to become invisible - until a new roll is bought.

This particular product has a nice smooth texture. It seems to be a little thicker than some others in this price range and its ease of use is about the same as well since it tears about as easily. I haven't had time to leave some exposed to the elements long enough to test its longevity.

In the meantime, I will use this where I need some extra strength due to weight or material and where it will show since it's better looking than the others (of more than half-rolls) I currently have.

I honestly do not know how many of the "Amazon Vine" reviewers are rating this Intertape Polymer Duct Tape so high. I have used it on a project in my garage and two weeks later the tape was peeling off. This is not super strong or great by any measure. I'm sticking with Gorilla tape which works all the time every time.

Intertape Polymer Group IG235 Iron Grip Duct Tape is not as great as the Vine reviewers claim it to be. I suspect that many have not actually used the tape and do not understand its capabilities or limitations.

I live in Alaska where duct tape is a staple "tool" in every house, car and airplane. This is the real stuff: it is thicker and stronger than regular duct tape. You need scissors or a knife to cut it (the other stuff I can tear). It is stickier, but it is very easy to work with and doesn't curl up on itself as easily as the thinner tape. Our spring has been warm, so couldn't test it in 20 or more below zero, but it seems like it would hold up under these harsh conditions. I am getting a other roll of this to keep in my car; if I owned a small plane I would have a roll or two there, too! It may be a little more expensive, but it is well worth it for heavy duty repairs.

So, I've used and compared this to the exact same version made by Gorilla Glue/Tape company. In these ways, they are identical:
Size (1.88"X35 yds), color, indications, and Made in USA. All important factors to consider.

I detect minor differences in the following:
InterTape is slightly more "vinyl"-like, while Gorilla Tape is slightly more "rubber"-like. They both have both qualities, so it's by a hair's breadth that you'd cite a difference.
Intertape seems to be slightly thinner, but again, by a hair's breadth. They are both pliable and stick well. As to durability, I can't imagine they're going to end up much different. They're both hard to tear, and both are good names that I've used before with other products. Intertape makes very good packing tape, for instance, and Gorilla makes good wood glue. I'm sold on both.

The only thing I would really look at between the two (the only two I know of in the game) would be price. Whichever is cheaper is the one I'd go with. I only detracted a star to 4-stars is b/c both of 'em cost 10 dang dollars a roll, which I find a bit spendy. Still, when regular ol' duct tape won't get 'er done, these are tougher and leave me feeling mroe confident about whatever it was I just jury rigged with heavy-duty duct tape. Buy Intertape Iron Grip with confidence. You won't wish you bought Gorilla unless you find it significantly cheaper or something. BTW, beware of clearance tape. It's long, but the adhesive does have a shelf life...just not as pronounced a degradation as masking tape seems to be. Just check to see if it's gotten gummy before buying discount duct tape, FWIW.
