4.0 out of 5 stars Bible study for an understanding of early Christianity, August 6, 2011
By
Bruce P. Barten (Saint Paul, MN United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Intertextual Jesus (Paperback)
Scholars study a Sayings Gospel Q as a source for verses in Matthew and Luke that are not in the early Gospel Mark. A large number of modern works are cited and listed by author on pages 245-270. An Index of Names is followed by an Index of Scripture. Jesus is pictured within a context that used scripture to make hearers believers.

I quote:

By relating himself so regularly
to the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings,
Q's Jesus makes them his own.
He lays claim to be the true heir
of the scriptural estate. (p. 211).

The intertextual Jesus
draws all biblical texts
to himself. (p. 212).
