This textbook consists of ten chapters dealing with interventional radiology procedures, and although it is heavily weighted to cardiovascular procedures, significant attention is also directed to the nonvascular interventional procedures. Chapter one is an introduction to catheterization techniques and includes some very basic principles. Chapter two is a detailed analysis of the techniques and materials presently being used for embolization. Chapter three is a comprehensive review of the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal bleeding by interventional procedures. Chapter four is a detailed analysis of the clinical application of embolization in the thorax, abdominal organs, and the central nervous system. Chapter five is dedicated to Interventional radiology in the biliary tract. Chapter six is a technical review of angioplasty procedures and the clinical applications for angioplasty. Chapter seven is a review of percutaneous methods for retrieval of foreing bodies in the circulatory system. Chapter eight discusses in detail the applications of interventional radiology in the urinary tract including percutaneous lithotripsy. Chapter nine details pulmonary thromboembolic disease as well as the inferior vena cava filter application. Chapter ten evaluates the percutaneous methods in the treatment of abscesses. This is a book with enphasis on what is the problem, what are the solutions and how to do it, giving the less experienced interventionalist a road map to follow for most of the procedures.
