2.0 out of 5 stars Too much
This book is supposed to coach you on how to ace job interviews, but the author tries to cover all too many bases and end up being obfuscating rather than helpful.

This book is an excellent resource. After almost a year of job hunting, I bought this book, put its suggestions into practice, and within a month I had the interview that got me a job in my field. This book helps you generate a bank of success stories focusing on your experience, education, and skills, and shows you how to use them to best showcase yourself in an interview. It provides many example interview questions, and teaches you how to use your stories to answer those questions well, rather than offering canned responses that make all candidates sound the same. Finally, this book goes beyond interview questions and answers to cover other aspects (such as demeanor and attitude) that have a big impact on the impression you give a prospective employer. If you're job hunting, this book is your best investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Excellence, October 27, 2007

This review is from: Interview Magic: Job Interview Secrets From America's Career and Life Coach (Paperback)
If you want to master interviews, this is the book for you!! It is concise, easy to read, and what I like best is that it is also a workbook. Hands on, roll up your sleeves and begin your job search journey. I have been out of the job search arena after losing my position of ten years, and this book has been a life saver. I have bought all the books by Susan Whitcomb and it has been a wonderful and useful investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Used several times, April 20, 2010

I've checked out this book from the library a number of times for job and grad school interviews (although it doesn't focus on school interviews). I found it to be a helpful guide to really look at what my goals and skills are and to be able to articulate them in an interview. I finally broke down and bought a copy. Anything referenced so often is sure to be a useful addition to my collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, March 2, 2005
By
This review is from: Interview Magic: Job Interview Secrets From America's Career and Life Coach (Paperback)
This book takes a comprehensive approach to preparing for, succeeding during, and following up an interview. The structure is to plan it like a marketing campaign and then sell yourself - not so much as a logical point-counterpoint list of qualifications but rather appealing to the emotional side of interviewing as well. I like the rather wholistic approach, particularly how the planning component can boost your confidence going into the interview.

I have read several job/resume books & this was by far the most helpful & informative. It is useful for every type of person & any career. I read this book in bookstore. I thought how many points can an Interview book offer, I should be able to get all points in 2 hours. I knew I was wrong after I read the first chapter of this book. I rushed back to get this book from Amazon. It is not only a good interview book, it is a great book on communication. It is very well written and it describes every detail on how to meet people at first time and how to win their trust and respect. I will read it again and again whenever I go to meet new client. This is a great book. Thank you, Ms. Whitcomb.
