4.0 out of 5 stars won't teach you the concepts, only for interview questions
It teaches very little about Java other than covers questions you should know for an interview, so it is good for it's purpose. Useless unless you know Java already, but important if you know Java and need a starting point for interviews.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unprofessional and useless, don't buy this crap!
I've bought this book as an ebook on another site for $9.99 and made a big mistake. After quick reading for first 40 pages I found at least 6 mistakes and inconsistencies (apart from grammatical): q9, q25, q41, q54, q55, q62.

The q62 (page 38) was "the last straw", look:
===============8<===============
Runnable runnable = new Runnable();...

4.0 out of 5 stars The questions about core Java concepts are valuable in that they will make you think and refresh, November 16, 2011
This review is from: Core JAVA Interview Questions You'll Most Likely Be Asked (Job Interview Questions Series) (Paperback)
In my opinion, the primary value of this book is not the sample interview questions at the end, but the questions about the basics of Java that appear before that. The sample interview questions are generic and I have seen them in many forms over the last few years. Therefore, the knowledge within them can be found in many other venues.
Some of those questions are:

*) Tell me about yourself
*) Why did you leave your last job?

The real value for developers is the pointers that are the consequences of the Java questions in the first section. Some of those questions are:

*) What is an abstract class?
*) What is the difference between an interface and an abstract class?
*) What are static variables?
*) What is an interface?

As you read the questions, you are prompted to conduct an internal overview of your knowledge about the topic and how you would answer the question. Reading the answer then helps you understand how well you answered the questions and where you probably need to refresh your understanding. Even the most experienced developers will suffer some knowledge rot of the basics over time if they do not regularly apply specific features of the language.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book, but lots of grammatical mistakes., March 19, 2011

This book is definitely worth the buy. It provides plenty of relevant questions to help prepare for an interview. I did notice that there was a fair amount of strange grammatical mistakes throughout the book. Regardless, I found the book very useful and recommend it.

Runnable.run();

'Authors' of this book state:

"Answer:
The above mentioned code compiles and gets executed successfully but it will not start a separate thread..."

Actually this code contains 2 (two) compilation errors, try it in any IDE:
1. interface can't be instantiated
2. Runnable.run() is completely wrong call

This book looks like composed from arbitrary Java Interview Web sites without any analysis and processing by some person who doesn't have any expertise in Java. I don't know which kind of "interview" this book can help with.

I recommend not to spend even one cent on this crap and not to spend time on this book even if you can download it for free from somewhere.
