Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

These authors have produced several books on career development (including Ronald's Moving Out of Government , LJ 6/1/82, and Re-Careering in Turbulent Times , LJ 8/83). The same information, while useful, reappears. The present guide offers specific advice for the nervous interviewee, spelling out proper clothing shades and suitable posture. Coverage of a broad range of employment possibilities lends a certain superficiality to the advice. However, the bulk of the book is devoted to preparing for the interview, and at the price, the book is a good purchase for public libraries. Preface: Landing a good job and advancing one's career as we move into the 21st century requires more than just responding to job vacancy announcements and waiting to be called for an interview. Increasingly job seekers must move from relatively passive job search activities to those involving greater initiative for uncovering job leads and scheduling interviews with prospective employers. This book is designed to assist you in moving to these active job search activities - getting and conducting interviews in today's job market.

5.0 out of 5 stars Put Your Best Foot Forward, December 22, 2005
Interviewing potential employees feels like a cross between a treasure hunt and a business transaction. The boss is looking for someone with energy, enthusiasm, job skills, and who fits with the current team. Far too many candidates have no idea of the image they project. Slumped in a chair while mumbling answers is not likely to impress an employer.

5.0 out of 5 stars I need this on my bookshelf, September 1, 2009
I got this book and many similar books from the library to prepare for my first interview in over 12 years. I ended up bringing all the other books back and extending this library book to its limit... I just didn't want to give it up.

Everything I needed to know from how to prepare, how to dress, to examples of thank you letters, to salary negotiation, this has been my interview companion all the way. The other books were bigger and seemed to be more comprehensive in the beginning, but they just kept going around in circles or asking you to do stupid and very time-consuming exercises to prepare for an interview. This meant you needed to start reading the the other books months in advance. This book just seemed far clearer and to the point than all the others, good if you can begin preparing one or two weeks in advance, but if not, it gives you all the important information summed up in just a few short chapters. I know I'd want to refer to it over and over again whenever my job situation changes and it's time to return this book to the library, so I'm buying it.
