DESCRIPTION
This advanced text is for those who may interview and/or interrogate while fulfilling profession responsibilities. It is particularly for those who may seek confessions or admissions. Behavior essential to acceptable tactics is emphasized to encourage investigators to become more proficient at gathering truthful information. A large section of the text is devoted to reviewing similarities and differences between interrogating and interviewing. Emphasis is placed on compassionate treatment of people as a key to successful truth gathering. Deception, stress, and other human conditions influencing the collection of data are probed. The Self-Fulfilling Prophecy and the Polyphasic Flow Chart are reviewed along with elements regarding selection of investigators, their attitude, use of authority, and application of nonjudgmental acceptance. New additions to this edition probe polygraphy and detection of deception examinations as reliable tools is gathering evidence. Although the primary intended audience for this text is professional police investigators, its message can be beneficial to those in other human interactions requiring positive communication.
