Book Description

0786428589 978-0786428588 September 27, 2006
For fans of SF and horror films, will there ever be a decade to compare with the 1950s? Actors, directors, producers, and crews prevailed over microbudgets and four-day shooting schedules to create enduring films. This book turns a long-overdue spotlight on many who made memorable contributions to that crowded, exhilarating filmmaking scene. John Agar, Beverly Garland, Samuel Z. Arkoff, Gene Corman, and two dozen more reminisce about the most popular genre titles of the era. Lengthy, in-depth interviews feature canny questions, pointed observations, rare photos, and good fun.

About the Author

Writer Tom Weaver lives in Sleepy Hollow, New York, and has been interviewing moviemakers since the early 1980s. The New York Times has called him one of the leading scholars in the horror field and USA Today has described him as the king of the monster hunters. Classic Images calls him the best interviewer we have today. He is a frequent contributor to numerous film magazines including Fangoria, Starlog, Monsters from the Vault and Video Watchdog, and one of his articles was featured in the prestigious Best American Movie Writing 2001. He is also the author of It Came from Horrorwood (2004), Science Fiction and Fantasy Film Flashbacks (2004), Double Feature Creature Attack (2003), Eye on Science Fiction (2003), Science Fiction Confidential (2002), I Was a Monster Movie Maker (2001), Return of the B Science Fiction and Horror Heroes (2000), John Carradine (1999) and Poverty Row HORRORS! 5.0 out of 5 stars Tom Weaver is a national treasure, October 27, 2011

This review is from: Interviews With B Science Fiction And Horror Movie Makers: Writers, Producers, Directors, Actors, Moguls and Makeup (Paperback)
This volume deals largely with behind the scenes personnel, who make for better interview subjects because 90% of the actors just say "Everyone was so nice."

Some highlights:

Mel Welles on Roger Corman. The Jerry Warren interview. Interviews with several different people who worked on such films as The Unearthly, Magnetic Monster, and The Black Sleep, allowing rare insight into not only how such films were made, but the way different participants' recollections can give the reader/fan a greater understanding of the filmmaking process.

My only gripe is, for the price, the Amazon summaries should list all the interviewees in each of Weaver's books, so they can choose the ones that hold the most interest.

Although, honestly, I never met a Tom Weaver book I didn't like.

If you're thinking of taking the plunge, this is a good one to start with.
