The Intex Sand Filter Pump offers many advantages over cartridge filter and Diatomaceous Earth (DE) above ground pool pumps. A sand filter pump is the most efficient and lowest maintenance filter pump option for your above ground swimming pool. The sand filtration media lasts 5 years on average and this saves you money since you will not need to buy replacement filter cartridges every summer. Plus, sand filter pumps tend to last 2-3 times longer than traditional filter cartridge pumps for above ground pools.
6-function control enables you to easily maintain this filter pump system with settings for normal filtering, backwash, rinse, recirculate, drain and close system.
This low maintenance sand filter is very easy to operate and maintain. Simply set the daily timer for automatic hassle-free management. The timer has daily cycle settings of 2, 4, 6, 8 or 12 hours. The size of your pool will determine the sand filter pump's daily cleaning period. Refer to the sand filter pump's operating manual for your pool's daily cleaning cycle requirements.
The Intex above ground pool sand filter pump includes a strainer basket that automatically collects most of your pool's larger floating debris. This will prolong the life of the pump's sand media and the sand filter pump itself.
This Intex sand filter pump is best suited for above ground pools 18' and larger in diameter with a water capacity up to 21,200 gallons (80,250 L), however it will work with smaller Intex above ground pools with the addition of hose adapters that will couple the pump's 1.5" diameter hose fittings to a smaller pool's 1.25" diameter valves.
This pool sand filtration pump has a 2 year limited warranty from the manufacturer, Intex®. Any warranty claim must be submitted to the manufacturer. I bought this pump about a week ago to replace the 1500gph pump that came with my intex easy set 18'x48" round pool. This was very convenient due to the fact that it was made by intex and was very simple to hook up to the existing setup. I have been really impressed so far with the design and function of intex components, particularly relating to the hose connections. Nothing beats the threaded hose connections and the convenient shut-off valves in the pool walls.
This pump comes with the pump motor and sand filter. The only thing I had to supply was two 50lb bags of silica filter sand. The connections and assembly were typical intex easy for a do it yourselfer no tools needed, which seems to be a theme with intex products. The motor is quite powerful and the sand filter is second to none. It is also quite convenient because you don't have to replace a paper filter every two weeks. Water has been crystal clear. Once I bought the sand I had this thing up and running in about 25 minutes. It works with all of the existing connections on the 18' diameter and larger pools. If you have a smaller pool you have to use some adapters that come with the pump kit. A new set of hoses is included as well with the very convenient threaded connections.
Overall I love this pump so far!
CON: My only small gripe is the O-ring seal in the leaf catcher lid. You really have to tighten it just right to get a good seal (if not it will drip all day). If it's too loose it leaks, if it's too tight it leaks. You really have to mess with it so it won't leak. This did not become apparent until the first time I had to remove the lid to pull out the strainer for cleaning. Going to have to deduct a star for that. Minor inconvenience, but the pump is still a lot of bang for the buck and I don't regret my purchase one bit.

This was my first time to buy and use a sand filter so there were many questions about which was the right one to purchase. After several hours of browsing on the web, I came to the conclusion that this was the best filter for my application which is a 15' x 48" intex easy set pool. This kit comes with ALL THE FITTINGS you will need to get it up and running. You do not have to buy the 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 adapters. After about 12 hrs of running, my pool water was very clear. I would recommend this product. Note. You will need to buy 3 50lb bags of sand as 2 will not quite bring it up to the recommended level.

This is the pump AND the filter... don't be mislead by others, they are either one or the other. This is an amazing deal and it works great! It was pretty easy to put together and it requires 2 bags of 50lb sand. The auto timer is awesome and convenient. The settings will take some time to get used to but over all, I am SO happy to get this and it is 100 times better then the filter that comes with the pool.
