Good value,

I've only used the bed once so far but it was quite comfortable. I was able to sleep on my side, back or tummy, just like my regular bed and the mattress stayed firm. I used my vacuum cleaner to quickly blow it up at home when I was testing it out. To use a vacuum as a pump, just take off the hose and put it on the opposite end. For camping with out an air pump, you can use your portable vacuum cleaner with an attachment for your cigarette lighter. So, for me, a comfortable bed for 20 dollars is a very good value.
Update, we used it for ten days straight, no problems. Never lost air, two of us slept well, we didn't roll or anything, perfect!

I originally ordered this air bed for guests to use, but due to certain circumstances, I'm now forced to use it every night. After a couple nights of sleeping on it, I'd say it's quite comfortable; it's not as good as sleeping on a real $1,000 mattress, but it sure beats sleeping on the floor! The only thing is that you have to get used to sleeping along the vertical chambers of air that the bed uses to support your body when it is fully inflated. Once your back becomes used to it, the mattress is great. However, I do have a couple of notes.
1. When you first get the mattress, you will experience what feels like air loss, however, it is just the mattress stretching out with use. Even if you pump enough air into the the mattress to make it firm, it will become a bit softer by morning during the "break in stage." This is because the mattress is stretching out, and after a couple nights of this, you shouldn't lose any air. 2. If you lose a lot of air in a night, for example, you go from firm to having your body touch the floor through the mattress by morning, or in a couple of hours, it could mean that your air valve is not closed tightly enough. After the first couple uses, you will have to tighten the air valve VERY well. Tighten the valve as much as possible, even when you think it's tight enough. Also, make sure the valve isn't put on crooked when you tighten it, this will let air escape if one side is higher than the other. I made the same mistake of just tightening it and thinking, "well that seems tight enough." Wrong! Air still escapes unless you tighten it fully. For a couple days I found my bed halfway deflated by morning. After inspecting the bed, I found no air leaks or holes. So I thought to myself, "eh, maybe I should just tighten it until it's extremely hard to turn the valve," so I did. I've been making sure to tighten the valve fully, and I no longer experience any air loss between nights. Also, watch out for the pop in cap, it can go in snugly, but that doesn't mean it's pushed in all the way. Even when I turn the valve until it absolutely turn anymore, if I accidentally leave the cap not pushed in all the way, I still lose air. You'll see what I mean if you buy it. I hope these tips help you. This is a great bed, it doesn't feel cheap, but it has a great price! Oh, and if it helps, I'm a 200 pound dude, so don't worry about being too heavy, you're probably lighter than me. One more thing, this bed doesn't come with a pump, so I suggest you purchase a battery powered or electrical air pump on amazon to come along with it. I forgot about the air pump, so I ended up going to Target. I paid around $26 for the air pump over there, you can probably find one on here for cheaper.

My daughter has been sleeping on this in the guest room for 3 months, it must be nice and comfy because she's still here! :) Seriously, she hasn't had to reinflate it at all and says it's quite comfortable. I'm adding a mattress pad and that should make it almost as high-end as a Select Comfort! At the price it is now, you should get one!

I've had my airbed for a couple months now, no problems and haven't even had to 'top off' the air. Keep in mind, I bought it to go inside a mattress casing designed for a 'soft side' waterbed. After moving into a 3rd floor apt, I decided not to risk the waterbed and put the airbed inside the mattress instead. It has great support and very comfortable. I have back issues that make a conventional bed impossible to sleep on. This was an ideal alternative. As always, shipping was fast. My only complaint with the bed, is that it is NOT the same size as a full size mattress. It is about 4 inches shorter and narrower. Which means I had to use half of the foam 'frame' inside the mattress casing to make up the difference in the sizing. Had it been the same size as a conventional mattress, it would have fit perfectly in the casing. That was the only thing I was dissapointed with. It's sturdy and comfy and I made it work for me.

We got these for extra guest beds (bought 2). Our girls already had a sleep over and these were big enough for 2 tweens on each mattress. Set up took a couple of minutes. As suggested in another review I didn't fill it completly as it give them a "stiff" feel. The material seems sturdy, so far it's survived a sleep over party party of 6 and an indoor camp out. We're even taking them to a family reunion next March. Great buy for the price.

Turns unfriendly futon into a comfy bed,

The cement-like comforts of our guest-room futon were significantly improved when we laid this air mattress over the top, at (obviously) far less than the cost of a new mattress. For anyone in a similar futon-enhancement situation, this is a great solution for occasional use. It also brings a low-lying futon up to regular-bed height, which is nicer for guests.
A very satisfying return on a tiny investment. Use what you save to buy an air pump.

Better than I expected!,

We bought this mattress almost 3 years ago. We've used it inside a tent for desert camping and state park campground camping maybe 10 times and used it indoors for guests 3 or 4 times for a week or so each time, with up to 3 sleeping adults (if we sleep sideways and let our feet hang off the edge.) I find this mattress to be just as comfortable as my bed at home and even though we have a new mattress at home my back actually feels better in the morning on this inflatable number.
This little baby hold air pretty well. It is ALWAYS a "little bit softer" in the morning than it was when we blew it up the previous night, but we never end up "on the floor." I'm not surprised that it leaks a tiny bit... even a soccer ball loses air over time. If you want a mattress that is absolutely perfect I don't have any idea where you would look. But if you want a decent, comfortable, portable night's sleep at a super reasonable price: this is it! Another bonus is that if the tent leaks a bit and you end up sleeping on a puddle, this mattress allows you to stay dry 4 or 5 inches up from the wet! We ALWAYS consider leaving the air mattress at home and just using roll out sleeping pads, but we ALWAYS end up bringing this one and we ALWAYS comment to ourselves that we are glad we did as we're pretty sure we slept a lot more comfortably than the folks on the ground. One nagging little hangnail in the back of my mind is that I know that EVENTUALLY the mattress WILL develop a more serious leak, so I always consider bringing back up sleeping pads, but then I started thinking: it would be just as cheap and use up LESS space in the back of the truck to just get a back up inflatable mattress! At this price, seriously: why not? Side note: we use a coleman battery powered air blower to fill it up in maybe 2 to 4 minutes. It takes 4 D cells. We're not "backpack camping" we are "car camping" so why not get comfy? This thing is great for home or away use. Enjoy it!

The first night I tried to sleep on this air mattress, I was on the ground by the end of the night. Threw it away after trying it again. It came with a patch kit, but how the heck are you suppose to find a small leak?

a good bed,

I bought this yesterday because my in-laws are staying with us next week. We inflated it at a leisurely pace in about 15 minutes. If you were in more of a hurry than we were I bet you could make it in 5. The foot pump is a bit of a pain, but we took turns, and it's not bad. Especially for the price. If you're not ready to invest in the higher end models, this is a solid buy. We'll see what my husband's parents think after sleeping on it for a week. :)
*Edit: my in-laws spoke positively of their experience with the airbed while visiting us, and I have since used it myself. It's very comfortable. I experienced some sweating during the night, but I feel that's to be expected given the materials. An airbed won't breathe against your skin like a regular bed. It was a good night's sleep all around.

Best Airbed on the Market,
By
This review is from: Intex Classic Downy Full Airbed (Sports)
When I moved out of state to start a new job, I wanted a temporary sleeping solution. I opted for an air mattress, initially a queen sized double high mattress. I've found these air mattresses to be the most comfortable bed I've used.
I've gone through a good dozen or so air mattresses in the last few years, and used a variety of brands. Intex is definitely the best, I weigh 300+ lbs. and will consistently get 6-9 months out of an Intex airbed, compared with 2 months tops with the next best brand, coleman. Intex beds are simply better designed, the vertical cushion design has fewer weld points, and thus fewer places where holes can develop. If you want comfort and longevity in an airbed, my advice is to go for as modest an air mattress as possible. The smaller the mattress, the less stress you'll put on it. Single high twin is perfect for me. A double high is unnecessary, unless you have mobility issues needed to be higher off the ground, otherwise a double high just means more welds, more surface area, and shorter longevity. My only reservation is the flocked surface, it's supposed to be a luxury or something, but it makes it harder to adjust your position, and the slicker surface of a plastic surface would mean less friction, less stress, and a longer lasting mattress. Alas, it doesn't seem that Intex is making these anymore, I blame the ignorance of consumers falling for the marketing ploy of luxury, and I blame the manufacturers for manipulating the consumers and offering lower quality products. Shaaaaame, shaaaaaaaaame. Darn it, those single level all plastic twin beds were perfect, and a lot cheaper too, bring 'em back. |
