Very comfy and cheap, but has some flaws,

This review is from: Intex Comfort Frame Rising Comfort Queen Airbed (Sports)
We needed a spare bed for occasional use, and a friend who also has one suggested this one to us. That turned out to be a good suggestion!
It's a queen size, nearly standard height bed that is amazingly comfortable to sleep on. To me, the big plus of this bed is that you can put standard fitted sheets on the mattress, and they'll stay put, since you can tuck them in, under the mattress (but inside the 'frame' part of the system. That's unusual, because most (all?) inflatable beds I've seen require you to just drape the bedding over the bed, and hope it stays put while you sleep. The pump inflates both parts (mattress and 'frame') in around 7 minutes total. It's not a built-in pump, but that can be a blessing if the pump fails: Friends of ours have a different brand bed with a built-in pump that failed (out of warranty, of course), so they now have a big inflatable bed that they can't inflate! Plus, a detached pump also allows you to upgrade to another, better pump (as another reviewer suggested.) But it's not all roses: There are some problems with this bed. Some of the small problems are that the pump is LOUD, and you need to keep holding it into the inflation port, or it will just pop out. The bed is VERY heavy, although that is good new / bad news, because that implies the vinyl is thick (hence, heavy), but also means you might want to have two people carry it. The MAJOR problem with this bed is that ours started leaking after about the 10th time we slept on it. Now, at the amortized cost of around $10/night, I didn't feel too bad about it, since we don't have to live with, and assign space to, a bed that we rarely use. Plus it was easy to patch with the included patch kit. But as we kept using it, we kept on getting small leaks. They are NOT holes from cats, or dogs, or poltergeist; but rather appear to be due to a manufacturing defect: All 5 leaks are in same area of the mattress, and all are on the same side of each of 5 different 'coils'. I can't say whether we were just 'unlucky', or that every bed has the same flawed joinery. But be aware that you may be patching this bed more often than you'd like. Or, you might never have to patch it. I only have the one bed, and so can't make any inferences. The bottom line, though, is that I'm pretty happy with this bed, holes and flaws and all. But if you decide to get one, I can offer some tips from my experience with it. 1) Roughen the nozzle of the pump, and the input ports of the bed with 320-400 grade sand paper. That will allow the pump nozzle to stay in the port with little or no assistance. 2) Put a bit of silicone grease on the 'flapper valves', and O-rings. That will provide a good seal, with no leakage, and protect the parts from ozone damage. But do NOT use oil based grease: That will destroy the rubber! 3) Put down a cotton mattress pad or blanket on top of the mattress before you put sheets on it. That lets air seep in, under your body, instead of being right on top of the vinyl surface. Sure, the flocked surface of the mattress helps with that, but a breathable pad is absolutely the way to go. 4) When you are finished using the bed, and need to store it away, don't try to stuff it back into the bag! That is WAY not worth the effort. Just get a bigger cloth bag, or box for the thing. 4) If the mattress does get a hole, finding it can be a real challenge. It's far too unwieldy to dunk it into a bucket to look for bubbles, and you can't easily smear the entire thing with soapy water. What does work, is to pump up the bed to a 'firm' level, and lie face down on the bed, and move your FACE -- not your hand -- over the surface of the mattress, in a regular search pattern. I found that my face (and lips, in particular) are very good at feeling small air currents coming from tiny holes. When I put my hand over a hole, I felt NOTHING. When you find the hole, clean the area with isopropyl alcohol (90%, or higher) before you glue the patch on. Cut the patch into a shape with rounded corners, smear it with glue, put it over the hole, and then clamp it down for at least 1 hour. Allow the patch to dry overnight before you blow up the bed.

Great Bed While It Lasts,

This review is from: Intex Comfort Frame Rising Comfort Queen Airbed (Sports)
While traveling a year or so ago, I slept on an air mattress at a friend's home and found that my nagging back problems seemed to have magically disappeared. Though I thought this a fluke, over several nights of very restful sleep and no morning back pain, I decided that, perhaps, sleeping on an air mattress may well be the solution I had been looking for for years. Believe me, I'd tried just about everything from waterbeds to literally every style of mattress. After some research and not wanting to spend thousands on a more conventional style air bed, I settled on this one. I was very impressed with its size - I'm 6'4" and tip the scales at 230 pounds - and ability to provide comfortable support through the night. However, though the frame has held up very well, in fact, it is quite comfortable for sleeping in its own right, the mattress has not faired so well. Within approximately six months of use, which may be lengthy for an air mattress, it started developing leaks. Were this a flat surface mattress, this would not have been much of a problem. However, the surface is dimpled and it was in these areas the leaks developed. By the way, for those who have had difficulty in finding these leaks, simply inflate the mattress to firm, put a tiny bit of dish soap in a spray bottle with, of course, water and spray the surface of the bed. Any leaks will immediately put forth foaming bubbles. Mark the area, let the surface dry, clean the spot with alcohol and apply the patch as directed. Easy enough but, at this point, it seems that a patch is need on a daily basis and the mattress will no longer hold air through an entire night. I have since purchased another brand of air mattress but am not nearly as pleased with it as I am/was with this Intex mattress. The next step is to contact the manufacturer and inquire about the purchase of a replacement mattress without the frame. Were it not for the leaking air mattress - perhaps the result of a design flaw, I would give this product a 5 star rating. Truly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on...while it lasted.

I was really happy with the purchase. We're in the process of moving, and we've been using this bed for almost one month and I have never had to put air on it again. One thing I don't like about it is the excessive noise that the air pump creates, but otherwise I really like the bed.

First of all: Cudos to Amazon for fast delivery. I bought this bed online on 25 March and had the bed in my home on 27 March. Awesome!
ON TO MY REVIEW... I have slept on this bed for one night only, but I can say that it is comfortable and stable. Setup was fairly straight forward... To inflate the frame part, you don't need a nozzle/adapter, you just insert the inflate part of the a/c inflater into the inflater port of the bed frame. You do have to remove the cover of the port in order to do this. Also, as other reviewers have stated, the inflater does not want to stay inserted into the port. No biggie, just hold it in place till you are finished inflating the frame. Next, to inflate the mattress, you have to remove the inflater port cover same as with the frame. Select the big nozzle and place it on the inflater. Insert this into the inflater port on the mattress and inflate to the desired firmness. You will have to hold the inflater in place till you have finished inflating the mattress. Remember to replace the port covers when you have finished inflating both parts of the bed. If you use the airbed as a guest bed and frequently inflate and deflate it, you might want to do what one of the other reviewers suggested and rough up the inflater, nozzle and receiver ports on both parts of the bed to keep the inflater from popping off while inflating. That said, on to the rest of this review. This bed is not really 22 inches in height. The backrest/headboard part is... but the actual mattress height is about 17 to 18 inches. Also, the mattress part of the bed is NOT queen size. The actual measurements are about 57x77x8 inches (inflated). A queen mattress is 60x80 inches. My queen sheets are too large for this mattress. I think that sheets for an oversized or deep pocket full/double bed might fit this mattress. I can't comment on the durability of this bed since I've had it for only one day. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of the odd mattress size and the low mattress height. Other than that, I am very pleased with this airbed. NOTE: I have seen reviews on other sites that state that it is impossible to get the deflated bed back into the supplied carry bag... The bed I received comes with two carry bags, one bag for each part of the bed. It also comes with a hand-held a/c inflater pump and a small patch kit. Everything you need to get the bed up and usable in one box.

I had relatively low expectations, having slept on a blow-up bed before. I'm a big guy, 6'4" and 275lb - and find it difficult to be comfortable sleeping anywhere but my own bed. I was pleasantly surprised! I just assumed the bed was a single piece affair, but it's not - it has a base that is like a rectangular swimming pool, and then a separate mattress that snuggles into the base. The included pump worked quite well and inflated the base quickly. Inflating the mattress was more challenging, but still only a few minutes. A queen fitted sheet was still too big for the inner mattress, but it could be tucked under and stayed put through the night. The bed itself was really quite comfortable and supportive .... and the bolster at the head kept my pillow from dropping to the floor every time I moved. I slept alone - so can't speak to its comfort for a two-some. The height was enough to allow me to swing my legs over the edge and stand up .... where I usually would have had to roll off the mattress and go to hands & knees first. In the morning, popped the two valves off and walked on the surface to push most of the air out .... then folded & flattened each unit toward the valve end. They flattened nicely and I had no trouble inserting them into the included bags. THIS THING IS HEAVY! But the two carrying bags have shoulder-length straps which are a definite plus. If it holds up .... this is going to be an excellent purchase!

Loved the bed! Almost in disbelief at how comfortable this bed is. The bed was easy to carry with the duffle bags. The pump was light and the bed inflated and deflated quickly.

Had family in town for a week that needed a place to crash and bought this mattress. The worst thing about other raised queen air mattresses is that a fitted sheet never stays on. With this bed there were no issues. Only used it for the week, but did not have any issues. It leaked about the same amount of air that I would expect from all air mattresses. Had to add a little air every couple of days.

We bought this mattress last year when my sister & brother in law came to visit at the same time as my mom. They loved and parents have used it twice for 6 week visits! They find it great. So now I am buying a 2nd one for my sister to have when my son & I visit her for 3 weeks. We have always gotten completments from the guests who use it. It is easy to inflated and works well with deep pocket queen sheets. I great product!

The bottom matress & frame section hel air fairly well. Air still needed to be added each night. The top queen sized mattress did not fare very well. 1st night lost have its air. Second night we got it pumped up higher & was still acceptable in the morning. The third night it was empty in the morning. The 4th night it lost a noticable amount of air between the time it was filled & bed time, 2-3 hours with no weight on it. At 4 AM it was empty. We pumped it back up, with a hand pump. This means more air than when the electric pump is used. By the 4:30 finish & back to bed time & 6:30 with my wife getting up & 7 AM when I got up, all of the air was out of the bed once again. If it wasn't for the bottom scetion keeping most of its air, we would have been on the cold ground.
The 2 star rating comes from the bottom working almost as good as advertised, but the top section very poorly. Ratings 3-4 for bottm & 0-1 for the top section. This could be caused by the difference in air valves. The bottom one seems to have a flapper with it to slow air. The top one doesn't. With our dog included we weight in at a little over 500 lbs. So we are not light in weight. It has a 600 lb rating, but it was losing air even with no weight on it. The large size meant that we needed a 12' X 12' tent from Cabela's here in NE. With a 6' by 8' area needed it is not a bed for limited area. The bed frame idea seems good. We used the bed in a clean area inside for 2 nights & in a brand new tent woutside but on soft soil with no rocks in it. I haven't been able to find the companies web sight to see if they have any ideas as to why we have so many problems. We have a doble self-inflating air mattress that we've had for 10-15 or so years. It still doesn't leak. This is even though it was slept on by a friend for 9 months or so straight. That mattress still doesn't leak. So why does the heavy duty Queen sized one leak so much air? Only good for those that like a leaky mattress.

Must be listening to their customers,
This review is from: Intex Comfort Frame Rising Comfort Queen Airbed (Sports)
Purchased the gray version of this bed online about a week ago. Took me about 3 minutes to unpack and about 7 to inflate both sections. Fits together well and held air pressure for 4 hours with no signs of leakage. Packaging was nice and the current version comes with 2 oversize duffles with more than enough room for a properly deflated mattress. Several older customer reviews indicated their was not enough room in the bag to fit both mattresses and pump, Intex seems to have addressed this concern. The 3-way air valve on the bed frame is good. Direct connection to air pump really speeds filling, has a check valve so if the pump dislodges you don't lose the air you put in and basic deflation is as easy as squeezing a clip and the whole valve pops out. 90% of the air leaves in seconds. Smaller nozzles on both 2 and 3 way valves made smaller pressure adjustments to suit comfort pretty easy as well. The whole thing is flocked for a "fabric feel" and placed together it actually holds the sheets in-place; however, they did not flock the inside bottom of the bed frame making the use of it as a second mattress (for more guests) less appealing than the packaging implied. The actual deflation went OK except the air pump would not pull air out of the bed frame (because it cannot override the check valve) and the tolerances on the bed valve cap are tight making the air pump difficult to connect to completely deflate. It took about twice as long to put away as setup. Overall a good value if you are looking for a versatile airbed with the added benefit of standard sheets staying in-place.
