Product Description

The Intex Saltwater Chlorine Generator Pool Filter Pump is much safer and more efficient than using packaged store-bought chlorine for your above ground pool. Say goodbye to red burning eyes, faded clothes, and ruined pool liners. Simply hook the Intex saltwater generator into the pool's water flow as directed, add the specified amount of salt, and the chlorine Generator will do the rest. The pool's water is converted to an effective algaecide - and since salt doesn't evaporate or dissipate as chlorine does, the constant addition of chlorine chemicals is a thing of the past. Keep your pool incredibly clean, crystal clear and fresh at all times with this Intex saltwater system chlorine generator.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what you think, May 5, 2010
So, you invest the money in this unit as opposed to buying the Filter and Chlorine Generator separately. You think you've got a compact package that mounts both functions on a single platform. You think you'll run the filter all the time (as they should be) and use the timer to run the Chlorine Generator the recommended amount of time (which for my Intex pool is 4 hours). You think you got it all covered. You'd be wrong.

The unit set up easily enough, I added the salt to my pool after shocking it. I turned the unit on and the filter started running, all seemed good. Since Intex recommends you stay out of the pool when the generator is running, I decided to run it at night. The timer does not allow you to set a time, rather it lets you set a duration, say 4 hours, and the generator will come on then, and repeat the same duration every 24 hours. So at 11pm I went out and started the generator. The next morning the filter pump was shut down. After a lot of reading and calls to Intex, I learned that this is how the system works. Twenty-four hours later the generator and the filter came back on. This means that normal Model 8111 operation will only filter the pool when the generator is running. Since they warn against over-chlorinating I can only run it for four hours a day in my pool. Imagine an active pool only being filtered four hours a day. Not a good thing. Intex recommends that I simply go out and restart the filter pump every morning. I can tell you that's not why I bought it. Intex was uncaring, couldn't explain to me why anybody would use this unit. At one point they actually suggested that I buy another filter to run on the pool!!! Given that there is only one inlet and one outlet this is physically not possible, never mind the sheer stupidity of the solution.

Don't buy this unit, buy the units separately and all will be good.

I bought this 3 months ago because I could not balance the chemicals in my above ground pool and thought it would be healthier, I love it. I do nothing but change the filter and make sure that it is running nightly, I returned $50 dollars in chemicals and have not had to buy more, I would totally suggest this system it saves you a lot of time and money buying junk chemicals to maintain/balance your pool water.

This review is from: Intex 2000 gph Water Filtration Pool Pump with Built-in Chlorine Generator
Well, so far we've only had this for 3 weeks, but we have been very happy. Unfortunately, it's the end of swimming season here so we have to put it away, but I will leave more feedback next season after we've used it for longer.

The salt took about a day and a half to fully dissolve (used water softener salt, so it was pretty big chunks). We had the pump running the whole time, our water went from murky green to crystal clear, it hadn't looked that clear since the day we filled it! We couldn't wait to go swimming! Before we had this we couldn't keep the chlorine levels up high enough, but now they have stayed right where they should be.

If you are thinking about going with the salt pump I highly recommend doing so and buying this one.
