Not what you think,
By The unit set up easily enough, I added the salt to my pool after shocking it. I turned the unit on and the filter started running, all seemed good. Since Intex recommends you stay out of the pool when the generator is running, I decided to run it at night. The timer does not allow you to set a time, rather it lets you set a duration, say 4 hours, and the generator will come on then, and repeat the same duration every 24 hours. So at 11pm I went out and started the generator. The next morning the filter pump was shut down. After a lot of reading and calls to Intex, I learned that this is how the system works. Twenty-four hours later the generator and the filter came back on. This means that normal Model 8111 operation will only filter the pool when the generator is running. Since they warn against over-chlorinating I can only run it for four hours a day in my pool. Imagine an active pool only being filtered four hours a day. Not a good thing. Intex recommends that I simply go out and restart the filter pump every morning. I can tell you that's not why I bought it. Intex was uncaring, couldn't explain to me why anybody would use this unit. At one point they actually suggested that I buy another filter to run on the pool!!! Given that there is only one inlet and one outlet this is physically not possible, never mind the sheer stupidity of the solution. Don't buy this unit, buy the units separately and all will be good.

I bought this 3 months ago because I could not balance the chemicals in my above ground pool and thought it would be healthier, I love it. I do nothing but change the filter and make sure that it is running nightly, I returned $50 dollars in chemicals and have not had to buy more, I would totally suggest this system it saves you a lot of time and money buying junk chemicals to maintain/balance your pool water.

Well, so far we've only had this for 3 weeks, but we have been very happy. Unfortunately, it's the end of swimming season here so we have to put it away, but I will leave more feedback next season after we've used it for longer. The salt took about a day and a half to fully dissolve (used water softener salt, so it was pretty big chunks). We had the pump running the whole time, our water went from murky green to crystal clear, it hadn't looked that clear since the day we filled it! We couldn't wait to go swimming! Before we had this we couldn't keep the chlorine levels up high enough, but now they have stayed right where they should be. If you are thinking about going with the salt pump I highly recommend doing so and buying this one.

This system is fantastic!! I set up our pool just before the 4th of July. As it instructed I connected all hoses and inflated pool ring then filled with water. I then added the required amount of salt and let the pump run for 24 hours before starting the saltwater system. It took only minutes and I haven't adjusted anything since (now mid-July)!! The water is beautiful and fun for the whole family. The ph and chlorine levels have been perfect since day one and I haven't done a thing other than clean the filter a few times!! So easy a caveman can do it!! oh wait, that's someone else's slogan isn't it? ;-) Seriously, this is well worth the extra money!!! Hassle-free pool maintenance!!!

good product,
The Intex Pump works great. You are able to chlorinate the pool at a set number of hours and if you still need to filter the pool you can just run the pump without it producing chlorine. The display will even tell you if your salt level is to high or to low.

Works great and saves money by not having to buy chemicals, the salt water is great for your skin and doesn't burn my grandkids eyes like the old fashion chemical method did.

My stock pump died on my 12' diameter pool. I was intending to get a larger pump as a replacement when I stumbled upon this package. This makes my pool much lower maintenance. Also, it has enough pressure to run my vacuum now.I am not sure if I should have gotten a separate pump and the standalone salt water system from Intex in case one or the other of these components fail, but all is well for now with no regrets on this purchase.Intex 2000 GPH Filter Pump and Chlorinator Combo

We are so pleased with this unit. We run the filter once a day and the water stays crystal clear and with NO CHEMICALS!. With chemicals, we would find that the water would burn our eyes and noses, but the salt water has not caused that issue. This is well worth the money. The only problem we had was with the hookup. We do not have an Intex Pool so we had to cut (shave) the pool so that the new hoses would fit. It was a little time consuming as it took a while to get the hole to the perfect size so that it wouldn't leak.

My wife and I really enjoy this saltwater pump. It has caused us no problems and it is really easy to use. I would buy another one again if I need to.

We have had this pump for about a month. It works well. If we turn it off for any reason it has to be reset, but that is easy to do.
