5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST CHRISTIAN SEX BOOK I'VE EVER READ!!!!!!!!!A++++, December 22, 2004
This review is from: Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple: Fire Up Your Sex Life with the Song of Solomon (Hardcover)
EVERY engaged couple should read this!!! My husband and I have been married 11 years and all I can say is "WOW"!!!!. The title makes it seem like it's for couples who need intimacy ignited (that too) but it's more about God's intention for Sex through the Song of Solomon and the way He intented it to be.
It showed me many good and interesting things. But one of the things that stuck out the most was how Solomon always pleased his wife first and how he was a servent lover toward Tizrah (his wife), and how God loves women so much that he gave us the Song of Solomon to see that we women are uniquely designed and not crazy! There is also a lot of things that wives can learn that will help enhance intimacy with their husbands as well. This is a must read for both husband and wives-not just for women. My husband(who is not a reader)enjoyed this book as well and learned from it.
My daughter is only ten, and I plan to keep this book in my closet for however many years until she is ready for marraige. I will definitely pass this onto her as well as buy it for wedding shower gifts. It is very well written and worth buying!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Many waters cannot quench love, December 3, 2005

This review is from: Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple: Fire Up Your Sex Life with the Song of Solomon (Hardcover)
Intimacy Ignited is a wonderfully in-depth walk through the entire Song of Solomon and how it applies to modern couple's physical, emotional, and spiritual intimacy. Though this is a practical guide to married life, it is not a technical manual for intimate encounters. The book is solidly Biblically based and quite scholarly as well. For instance, it explains the ancient Near-East poetical imagery used in the Song and what it means to modern readers... it will SURPRISE you!

Through various anecdotes throughout the book the reader gets to see other couple's struggles and joys and hopefully learn how to apply them to their own marriage. It is hard hitting and encompassing, and very little is not discussed. My wife and I used this book as a Bible study and found the level of intimacy and joy in our marriage increased with the added knowledge of what God originally intended and wants a man and wife to experience in the safety and security of the bonds of marriage.

We would definitely recommend this book to married couples, but not to pre-married ones. Not that it would be "bad" to read before marriage, but the book can be rather stimulating and some of the topics may not make sense outside of the married mind. We, however, strongly recommend Intended for Pleasure by Wheat and Wheat for engaged couples as well as Intimate Issues by Dillow and Pintus for the engaged or married woman.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intimacy Ignited, June 27, 2006
This review is from: Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple: Fire Up Your Sex Life with the Song of Solomon (Hardcover)
Wonderful information by my favorite Christian author, Linda Dillow. She and her husband, along with another couple, have written a book about sex within marriage based on the book of Song of Solomon from the Bible. Their wisdom and perspective from couples to couples is a wonderful tool in strengthen your relationship with God in all areas of your life. It is written in an easy to follow format going through all the scripture in the Song. My husband and I never realized the Bible had such wonderful insight on sex. We read it together and have enjoyed learning more about how God intends for us to follow his ways.

Linda Dillow has done it again. I am so happy that she is still willing to talk to couples about issues that most Christians find hard to talk about. We need to be in the world, but not of it, and Linda helps us understand that God has created sex for married couples and we need to know what is Godly and what is worldly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not what I expected, May 6, 2010
This review is from: Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple: Fire Up Your Sex Life with the Song of Solomon (Hardcover)
I got this book thinking it would be a great aid to studying the Song of Solomon. I now understand the intent of the book was more designed to examine sexual issues between husbands and wives using the Song of Solomon as a launching pad for discussion. My understanding of the Song of Solomon has shifted over the years and I have come to a different historical perspective on the Song of Solomon which makes my view of the book come in conflict with some of the authors' interpretation and main points. None-the-less I still see how this book has some value for couples who may be looking for some insight into how God designed sex for marriage.

The authors do a great job of illustrating their perspective of the text and relating it to issues faced by husbands and wives today. Much of the insight and perspective shared on sex inside the book are not new. The book does a great job of illustrating the perspective of husbands and wives and how to navigate some of the more difficult issues. Over all Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple: Fire Up Your Sex Life with the Song of Solomon is a good book filled with great perspective and counsel for couples on sexual issues. However I would offer one word of caution... If you are not married, don't read the book.... It really is written for married couples.

5.0 out of 5 stars Secrets for a more Passionate Marriage, October 6, 2007

This review is from: Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple: Fire Up Your Sex Life with the Song of Solomon (Hardcover)
In today's fast paced life, it is so easy to neglect our spousal relationship and find ourselves merely tolerating each other. This book challenges the couples intimacy with God and each other and gives tools to make changes.

The Dillows' and Pintus' have done an excellent job of interspersing testimonies with the Word of God,putting " feet" to the Scriptures, so to speak. I highly recommend this book for all married couples. It is also an excellent tool for small groups(2-3 couples) for an in-home church or neighborhood study. If you follow their suggestions you will change the course of history and the legacy that you leave your children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Sheet Music..., April 14, 2010
By
This review is from: Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple: Fire Up Your Sex Life with the Song of Solomon (Hardcover)
Several years ago, I bought a copy of Intimate Issues by Dillow and Pintus. I was concerned about a friend and they had come to me for encouragement. I found a lot of sound biblical advice in Linda Dillow's book.

I didn't realize it until recently, but Linda Dillow and the gal she wrote that book with wrote a sequel to it several years ago. Dillow and Pintus set out to examine what the Song of Solomon says about sex. The book is called Intimacy Ignited. There are two ways that the Song of Solomon is usually interpreted--allegorically and literally. In this book, they have interpreted the Song of Solomon to be the literal story of the love between Solomon and Tirzah. Each chapter of the book looks at what the Song of Solomon says about making love for husbands and wives. There is a Discussion/Bible Study for couples at the end of the book as well as several good Appendices.

I'm not sure whether or not I think the Song of Solomon is meant to be interpreted literally or as an allegory of God's love for Israel or for the church. But, I found as I read through the introduction that I felt okay not being certain about this issue. I know that may sound very strange, but I found that I was willing to listen and open my heart to what the authors wanted to share. As I read through the rest of the book, all of the things the authors shared in the chapter sat well with me--there weren't any red flags in my heart that I needed to be concerned that the authors were being unwise in their advice.

Please note that the introduction is rather dry and is very matter of fact. The rest of the books is written in very different tone. So please keep reading after the introduction!

In some ways, it's a very awkward thing to write a review about book about sex. What I can say is that the book gave me some ideas about how I can love my husband better and it affirmed that I already am pursuing my husband and loving him well.

I would recommend this book over Sheet Music by Kevin Leman. They are different books. Sheet Music is much more practical in nature and this book talks more about the role that making love has in our lives and how we love our spouses well as a whole. Sheet music is practical in its approach and (from what I remember) talks specifically about the act of making love. Intimacy Ignited addresses the act as well as the stage and all of the things that affect it for both wives and husbands. This is one of those books that you feel good about after you've read. You know that you'll pick it up again and find the chapter you need. Ms. Dillow and Ms. Pintus share from their hearts they talk about the act, the stage, the things that get in the way, the things men want and those that women want, how keep your love alive, and more. It's the whole picture. There's even a chapter on how to continue to make time for each other after kids come into the picture.

This is a good book to read--whether your marriage is doing well or you are struggling. I hope that it will be encouraging to you.

Please note that I did receive a complimentary copy of this book for review by Navpress, but I liked it so well that I have already ordered and sent a copy to a friend. I do highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Every married couple should read this book, March 21, 2010
This review is from: Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple: Fire Up Your Sex Life with the Song of Solomon (Hardcover)
I recently had the chance to review this book and was intrigued from the moment I read the cover. The book is called Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple. And the heading on the cover says "Fire up your sex life with the Song of Solomon". With all that, I had high expectations for this book, and I was not disappointed.

This book does several things (and does them very well!). First of all, it's a verse-by-verse walk through the Song of Solomon. The authors go deeply into what the meaning of the words are- explaining the poetry of the Song to us. They also spend time explaining how some words may have double meanings and the cultural references that don't make sense to us. I'm sure we've all read the Song of Solomon before, but there's a lot in that book of the Bible that I never understood.

Secondly, Intimacy Ignited uses the Song of Solomon to show us what God's view of sex really is (book spoiler- he's all for a great sex life in marriage!). I really appreciated this, because I think sex has been a topic of much misunderstanding in churches for a number of years. Books like Intimacy Ignited help us realize why God gave us the incredible blessing of sex, and appreciate it as such. As this book reminds us over and over, sex in marriage doesn't have to be something boring or routine!

Thirdly, this book offers advice on how to shift from being selfish lovers to being servant lovers. It also challenges us to really take on the 16 traits of the servant lover, and offers suggestions on how to do so. Some of the challenges and suggestions directly deal with a couple's sex life, and others are more basic marriage builders.

I really liked how this book is laid out. The chapters are easy to follow, but full of a lot of information and advice. Many chapters have subsections specifically directed to the husband or wife as well as to the couple together, ways to apply the Song of Solomon in your marriage. There's also an 8-week couples Bible study at the end of the book, with study questions and application exercises.

This book is one that I would highly recommend for any married couple, newlywed or married for many decades.

This is an awesome book about intimacy in a Christian marriage. My husband and I first read this book as part of a marriage group in our church. We are now on our second read-through and are getting different lessons each time we read. The study questions in the back are even better- don't miss them!
