The third of six children, actress Christine Lahti grew up seeking attention. And now she has it in spades: first a famously delayed Oscar speech due to a bathroom visit, then a high-profile role on TV's Chicago Hope, and now her own Intimate Portrait from the folks at Lifetime. This 44- minute biography, narrated by friend and actress Mary Kay Place, traces Lahti's Midwestern roots, New York theater career, and respected movie roles. A substantial portion of this portrait focuses on her early struggles to start a career with a less-than-glamorous image, as well as her effort to restart her career after age 40. Her marriage to director Thomas Schlamme and their family life is also featured in interviews by their director and screenwriter friends, her brother Jim, and performers including Goldie Hawn and Ted Danson. Old home movies and clips of her film and television roles make for an entertaining look at one of America's more serious actresses. --Kimberly Heinrichs

4.0 out of 5 stars An in-depth portrayal of the suberb actress, February 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Intimate Portrait: Christine Lahti [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Do you know that famous Chicago Hope star Christine Lahti was a waitress before becoming an actress? Do you know she almost fainted when she first tried to observe a surgery to understand more about her role as the notorious yet amusing Dr. Kate Austin in Chicago Hope? This 44-minute video is definitely a delight, especially if you are a fan of Christine. Following her from her childhood days to the present, it shows how an expressive and warm girl becomes the award winning actress whom Hollywood venerates. There are a number of very precious film cilppings and movie stills from gorgeous films like "And Justice for All" (Al Pacino), as well as her work behind the scene of Chicago Hope. It's truly a joy to see how her kids enjoy themselves as their mom "works" in the OR. Chrstine also delivers a rather inspiring short speech towards the end and wraps up the program well. The only disappointing thing is that 44 minutes is far from enough for her fans...

5.0 out of 5 stars Class Act !!, March 25, 2007
This review is from: Intimate Portrait: Christine Lahti [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Great interview with a wonderful actress. I am a Chicago Hope addict, and I recently enjoyed Christine on "Studio 60". If you want to know more about this beautiful and talented lady, then this video is for you. It starts when she was child and goes through her first Chicago Hope years. I can only hope that Chicago Hope and Jack and Bobby will be out on DVD in the near future.
