4.0 out of 5 stars A really good book about average couples
Laura Dehart Young does a wonderful job of relating to averagecouples. This book is centered around a couple who are havingproblems, but continue to live in the same house in diffrent rooms. One partner is a photographer who, wallowing in her lonliness, quickly falls for the most unlikley person. Cole is torn between risking her partners love or letting her get hurt by...

1.0 out of 5 stars Hard to finish
The only reason I managed to finish this book is because I paid 10.00 dollars for it. Tray is deceptive and Cole is too naive and blind apparently. Cole is still living with her exlover who is trying to find herself, yet seeks the comfort of Tray who obviously has problems. Yes I know many wierd things happen in the lives of lesbians, but this was too unrealistic. Not...

4.0 out of 5 stars A really good book about average couples, May 8, 2000
This review is from: Intimate Stranger (Paperback)
Laura Dehart Young does a wonderful job of relating to averagecouples. This book is centered around a couple who are havingproblems, but continue to live in the same house in diffrent rooms. One partner is a photographer who, wallowing in her lonliness, quickly falls for the most unlikley person. Cole is torn between risking her partners love or letting her get hurt by this con artist. I could very easily relate to Cole's feelings. Anyone that has ever tried to live under the same roof as friends after being in a relationship can relate to this book. I liked this book a great deal, but I thought it could have been longer and at times it was a little predictable, but overall it made for a very enjoyable evening of reading. This is a book I will continue to read many times in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Trust Everyone, December 16, 2000
By
This review is from: Intimate Stranger (Paperback)
This book was wild. It was a book about trust and how you could meet someone and think you know them, but you really don't know them at all. The thing I liked about the book is it made total sense and that this could happen to anyone. When Cole meets Tray you think Tray is a nice person but sad and lonely. You feel sorry for Tray until you find out who she really is. Young does a great job of pulling you into the story and then hitting you with the real truth. The characters are great and just like people you might know in your own life. Wow! I hope Young writes a new book soon!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a Classic, but Still Worth Reading, June 30, 2005

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Intimate Stranger (Paperback)
Cole is a freelance photographer who lives with pseudo-girlfriend Jan. Cole loves Jan and wants to make a life with her, but Jan is on a "spiritual" quest to discover what she really wants from life. As a result, Cole is left to fend for herself. While photographing a murder scene one day, Cole meets Tray, the victim's niece. Cole feels drawn to the flirtatous Tray and becomes intimately involved in her life. Little does Cole know that Tray is a use-em-and-lose-em kind of gal.

Jan, feeling jealous, has Tray investigated and presents the results to the suspicious Cole. It is what Cole finally does with the information that makes the best part of this story.

I think the premise of this book is good and it was worth my time to read. However, I cannot believe a woman as seemingly cognizant as Cole could be this terribly naive. At the same time, I know people like Jan and Tray actually exist. Who knows, maybe the story holds more truth than this reader realizes?

This was a real departure from DeYoung's high quality writing style. I was a little disappointed. Perhaps if I had read this before her other books I would have rated it higher. Who knows?!

4.0 out of 5 stars real characters, real emotions, March 19, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Intimate Stranger (Paperback)
This is the kind of book I have come to expect from Laura DeHart Young. Her books are very realistic and have characters you can believe exist. Her descriptions of Chicago were great and I liked the detail about being a news photographer. I don't think Cole was naive or clueless, I think she was hurt and drawn to someone she wouldn't have trusted under normal situations. I liked the ending. It ended just like I was hoping it would. I do recommend this book. It was very entertaining and, well, life isn't always perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Look Into Relationship Deception, December 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Intimate Stranger (Paperback)
What an incredible story! Laura DeHart Young has done an excellent job with a story that highlights the type of deception that can happen in relationships when you least expect it. Cole has both a trusting soul and a big heart. Unfortunately, there are real people out there like Tray who enjoy taking advantage of the "Cole's" of the world. This is an important story that I'm greatful was told. A must read!
