5.0 out of 5 stars Nix Never Fails, July 20, 2001
By
A.Niles (Toronto, ONT CANADA) - See all my reviews
It's no surprise that 'Into Battle' ---the fifth book of Nix's Seventh Tower series--- is wonderfully written and is mostly equal to the other books. Tal and Milla are now separated, Milla back on the ice and Tal in the castle. But with each of them, a new burden lies: Milla's new title as War-Chief, baring the Terrible Talon of Danir, and Tal's responsibility to warn the Empress of the close danger that now presses upon their everyday lives and to release Lokar from the Red Keystone. Though it starts off a bit sluggishly (quite odd, as a matter-of-fact, considering the fact that the other books dived right into the action) this was utterly surprising with twists and turns and newly-discovered truths that will leave you gasping for breath. It only makes you wonder why the series is only 6 books long. Nix puts his literary talents to work in this book, and weaves a spellbinding tale of magic, shadows and sunstones around our two leading characters that is wonderful for anyone, of any age. I'm thirteen and love it, even my friend's mother enjoys this series! With a wonderfully creative plot that is full of imaginative detail, and characters of such depth, charm, humour and fear, this book still refuses to leave the list of my favourite books. Read the series and I guarantee you'll agree!

5.0 out of 5 stars The thrilling fifth book in the Seventh Tower series., July 22, 2001
Milla has returned to the Icecarls. But instead of being left to the mercy of the Ice, as she believed she would be because of her Spiritshadow, she is made War-Chief of all the Icecarls, charged with leading an assault on the Castle. The Icecarls believe they must destroy the Chosen in order to keep the Veil from falling and the inhabitants of Aenir from invading the Dark World. Meanwhile, Tal is on a quest to save his family, free his father, and defeat Sushin, the evil being behind everything. Tal and Milla were once forced to work together. Now, they are on opposite sides of the battle, not realizing that they have a common enemy. Both are in a race against time to save their worlds. Can they succeed before it is too late? All fans of the Seventh Tower series won't want to miss this, the latest thrilling book in the saga. The wait until the sixth book comes out in November is far too long.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Seventh Tower: Book Five: Into Battle, August 19, 2001
Tal and Milla are fighting a war that has plunged the entire Dark World into unimaginable danger. Milla, who is now a leader of her Icecarl people, must find a way into the Castle, with the alliance of the Rebel Underfolk who will stop at nothing to destory the Chosen's Castle. Tal must find the Empress and inform her of the hideous plan that the evil and mysterious Sushin may unleash -- but what he finds will change everything. The two children are no longer in the safety of their homes, and they are no longer under the shadow of those protecting them. As the battle heats up into extraordinary danger for the both of them, they will have to fight by themselves -- until the bitter end. The Seventh Tower #5: Into Battle is an exciting addition to Garth Nix's wonderful series, but I still liked Aenir and Above The Veil slightly more than this, Into Battle. The wait for the sixth and final book in the series, The Violet Keystone, will not be easy; Garth Nix managed to please yet again with the fifth book in the exciting Seventh Tower series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Adventure Continues, August 7, 2001
By
Tal and Milla are separated from each other now and their influence on each other is more apparent because of this separation. Both Tal and Milla have been changed by their experiences, but mostly from the experience of being with someone that was so much different from the other. As such, Milla, even thought she had been made the Ice Carl's war chief for the attack on the castle, has become more humane, almost compassionate; and Tal, on his own with only his spirit shadow for any real help, must make decisions that will decide the fate, and even the very survival, of his people. Both are performing deeds that will live in legends, but only if they can survive and save their worlds from the Sushin and the free shadows of Aenir. However, a trap is laid for Tal, a trap that he is drawn to by his compassion for his family, a trap that succeeds.

The next book is out in November. I know Tal can wait, but can I?

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST BUY!!, July 22, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is one of the best books I've ever read(the left behind series is the best). If you've read all the other ones this is a must buy, but if you haven't then you don't know what your missing. I think that "Into Battle" is a very good cliff hanger and it will kill you to wait for the sixth book. Milla and Tal come to their greatest challenges in this book and it will make you wish that the book will never end. This book has an awsome relavation in it and it is totally awsome. I hope that this review is helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Garth nix has created an incredible world here., September 4, 2001
I don't believe I have EVER read a searies that has so many unexpected twists and turns as this one. Nothing is as it seems in the dark world and Tal and Milla keep uncovering new mysterious things, the talon of Danir, a sunstone which is more than that, mysterious sunken spears in the lake of ash. The two children, in the first book, had lives and tasks that seemed so simple but they are realizing that there is much more to it than they first saw. Tal is searching out the emperess by Lokar's instructions and he is haunted by the memory of the people he has killed (or thinks he's killed.) But when he finally reaches the emperess more unexpected complications are added to his task and he discovers that one more thing he thought true is not. Milla, now a war chief, plans on attacking the castle with the help of the undrfolk. They will drive the shadows back to Aenir and stop the Veil from being destroyed. With this book the plot reaches it's climax, I can hardly wait for the next book, the violet keystone, to come out.

5.0 out of 5 stars War is to come..., August 27, 2001
War is to come for the Veil is vulnerable, and the Dark World is in danger from the shadows of Aenir. Tal makes a journey to Aenir to warn the Empress of the impending danger of the Veil. However when he gets to her he wished he never did, for he learns the truth her and the truth about a part of himself. What he learns tells him that his world is in more danger than ever before. Milla, who thought she was going to give herself to the ice, has now become the war chief of the Icecarls on their assault to the castle to protect the Veil and create another Forgetting. Milla in this book acts a lot more mature and in ways reminds you of a Chosen. Garth Nix wrote another wonderful book in this ongoing saga of the Seventh Towers. #6 Violet Keystone should be another tough one to write cause expectations are high.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tal Rocks!, October 21, 2001

Mista Book Crazy (somewhere in India-na) - See all my reviews
I love this book!! There are plenty of action, especially when Tal kills the Empress and the Light Vizier with the Violet Keystone. (If you know, Tal got a new sunstone in Book 2, but that was the Violet Keystone!) There were so many unexpected turns and mystery that I was impatient to turn the page. I think Garth Nix should make Tal the Emperor, since he's now very powerful and all with the Violet Keystone in his hands. It also has a cliffhanger. Sushin throws a water spider venom at Tal, and he blacks out just after he cured his mother. Will Sushin take his Violet Keystone, or will somebody come to Tal's rescue in the nick of time? I can't wait for Book 6. It'll torture me to wait till November
