Into the Darkness,
This review is from: Into the Darkness (Avon Red) (Paperback)
Natalie Lambert's life is in turmoil. First her parents were murdered, then her roommate, and now the world has gone crazy! She returns to New Orleans in search of her birth mother and the killer that stalks her, but instead she is attacked by killer birds and locusts and discovers sexual desire for the first time. Can she make any sense of things before the killer catches her too?
New Orleans Police Detective Rene Broussard knows there are things that go bump in the night... after all, his partner is a vampire! Yet even he is shocked at the strange things that occur around Natalie. He takes her into protective custody, but soon wonders who will protect the little innocent from his own raging desire? Natalie's hormones are raging and although she doesn't understand them, she follows her instincts and sets into motion a chain of events that will change everyone's lives. Into the Darkness is a step into another world. Delilah Devlin easily weaves fantasy with reality, creating something spectacular in Into the Darkness. Natalie had no idea who or even what she was until she met up with Rene and his strange partner, Chessa Tomas. Watching the changes she goes through was both fascinating and erotic. She and Rene are great together and as they learn more about her needs, they also learn more about each other and their desires. I really liked seeing the progression and the growth of their feelings for each other. Into the Darkness is a fast-paced page-turner full of fantastic characters and a whole lot of sexual tension - this is one story you won't want to miss. Georgia reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

It doesn't matter if Natalie Lambert is a suspect or a victim, good cops do not get involved with either. At least, that is what Rene Broussard keeps trying to tell himself when he is tasked with protecting her overnight - at his own home. In his own bed, even. But as the beautiful virgin vampire comes into heat for the first time, she proves as irresistible as she is determined when she sets her mind on seducing Rene!
Natalie can't explain the desire she feels for Rene - something she has never felt before. Even harder for her to understand is this strange urge she has to bite him... When an unknown threat terrorizes Natalie, murdering those she loves most, she is swept up in the arms of a new family - one she never knew existed - who will stop at nothing to protect her. Delilah Devlin is a relatively new author for me, and I am enjoying what I have read from her so far immensely! Her new vampire story, Into the Darkness, is no exception. This is actually the first full-length novel I've read by this author, and she proves herself as capable in this format as she is with a short story. Be warned, Devlin's vampire society lives by a set of mores that are atypical to human society, and readers must learn to adjust along with Rene, who is also human. As Rene grows to accept the strange new world he is thrust into, we are provided the opportunity to gain the same acceptance through his eyes, easing both him and the reader into this new world. Natalie is a wonderful leading lady to Rene's hero, and is simultaneously sweet and innocent, yet bold and sensual, providing Rene no quarter as her newfound sexuality asserts itself. The more sensitive readers should be aware that this book contains elements that may be too titillating for delicate sensibilities, including a ménage scene and a female/female scene. While I usually do not choose books with female/female content, the scene fit with the peculiarities of the vampire culture in Devlin's story, and I didn't find it offensive or out of place. While Rene's & Natalie's story is complete in this book, the author creates opportunity for possible sequels with some very interesting supporting characters. I know I will definitely be keeping an eye out for a sequel!

Stunningly Complex,

I discovered this author on a group blog called Everything Erotic I receive on my Kindle. I've read erotica in the past - like Portia De Costa, Megan Hart and my favorite Emma Holly... but I was unprepared for the rare gem of Ms. Devlin. Sure, her sex scenes are hot, but beyond that they have a depth to them which is truly inspiring. Characters I would love to hate I am shown a deeper motivation and feel a kinship to. Situations where I think if I were in I would act a certain way are shown to me with a vantage point to make me sympathize rather than judge.
I won't paraphrase the book, other reviewers can. I will say I was transported into the magical realm of this writer's world and I did not want to leave. The emotions and images she paints are clear and vivid - I feel like I'm experiencing it as she is revealing it. This is the first full length book I've ever read by this talented author and it will certainly not be the last. I plan to buy the rest and devour them just as quickly!

A New Vamp Society that may be a promising series,
By Morningdew (Minnesota) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Into the Darkness (Dark Realm, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the 1st writing of Deliah Devlin's that I have read and I plowed right through the book. I won't go through the synopsis since it's readily available.
The book was hard to put down, needing to see what happened next to our new emerging Born vamp Natalie, and her reluctant at first mate, Rene who is human and their future. The good vamps (Born) vs. bad vamps (Bitten Rogues) are a little reminiscent of the Crimson City vamp society struggles to me. If Devlin continues on with a series, it looks like we may find some of our good vamps are really nasty little dictators, our rogues may not be all that bad and characters from this book may play a leading role in a coup. Time will tell, lots of room to play with. Rene is yummy HOT. He and Natalie certainly burn up the sheets. Our secondary gal/guy Chessa & Nic are just as hot and we should be reading more about them I would guess. As others have warned this is an erotic paranormal with hot sex and a lot of it. Yes, some girl/girl sex. Not my cup of tea, so just skip over that part as I do. However, there is also a very good story here with all the elements of a strong series.

While the author has a semi-new idea for why/how Vampires share our world, there is not enough plot and character building in this book for me to care if anyone lives or dies. The shaky story outline is there simply to frame sex scene after sex scene. And while I can appreciate good erotic writing, after awhile you tire of the constant bedroom scenes and hope this is all going somewhere. [it's not] Fine for those looking for a little sizzle, but not really worth purchasing or following the planned series. Blah.

I started this book last night and boy was it a real hooker!
This story is proving to be one of the most erotic novels I've read so far. Not that I'm complaining! So far I know that it's about a newly transformed woman vampire, Natalie, who is bloodlusting and lusting for a cop, Rene, who saved her from being pecked to death by pigeons. She's managed to find herself locked away in a room with Rene.... chained naked to a bed. And of course she helps herself to a little lovin'. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the story plays out. It seems like there's still something I'm missing about Natalie. Guess I'm wondering if all newly changed female vampires react the same way or is she different show how? Guess I'll find out! UPDATE: So, I finished this late last night. And boy, did I mention that this book was the most erotic I've ever read? I'm a sucker (puny!) for romantic vampire novels but this went beyond my comfort zone a little. Besides the romping every few minutes towards the end it spawned into a threesome between the 3 main characters. Holy smokes! Any how, the story line was great. It was complex and complicated yet intriguing. Natalie ended up being a "Born", a child born from a born mother and human father. Borns are only female and go into their "moon phase" upon which they become sexually charged and will have sex with anything near them, practically. She ends up falling in love with Rene, and he returns the emotion. Only they both suffer from the lusting curse she has. That's why they end up with the threesome at the end. To save Natalie from those that hunt Borns they inlist the help of a mage to open a portal to a different time, I assumed, and Rene goes with Natalie to love her and raise their daughter. It was a different book than I'm used to reading just it was enjoyable, maybe just a little too much though.

A wonderful erotic take on vampires!!,

Delilah Devlin's book Into The Darkness is a fantastic take on vampires and paranormal erotica. This is a triumph of storytelling. Ms. Devlin takes us into the heart of New Orleans and introduces us to some wonderful characters. I couldn't put this book down and can't wait for the next installment. The dialogue is witty, the setting tactile, the lovemaking incendiary.
Well done!

One Hot Book!,
By Viv (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Into the Darkness (Avon Red) (Paperback)
This is the story of one "Born" vampire's transformation from human to total immortal. The problem is Natalie is being hunted by Those who would see the "Borns" annihilated. Her protectors are the unsuspecting detective Rene and his all too knowing partner, Chessa.
Rene cannot resist Natalie during her change nor can she resist the urge to mate and feed for they are one and the same to a vampire. Chessa is aware of the danger Natalie is in and knows Who can help her. This is a very erotic book with lots of vivid and explicit love scenes. The main protags engage in sex with other people, and there are girl/girl, and girl/girl/guy sex scenes.

Delicious vampire tale full of heat!,
By C. Dionne "Chrissy Dionne" (Cloverdale, OREGON USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Into the Darkness (Avon Red) (Paperback)
Natalie Lambert's move to New Orleans is no coincidence. Her parents and best friend were all brutally murdered and she has a bad feeling that their deaths had something to do with her. She's confused, upset, alone and for the first time she's experiencing the pangs of sexual desire. Natalie has every intention of drawing the murderer out into the light of day and put an end to the horrifying deaths of her loved ones - only she has no idea what she's dealing with or even her own true identity.
Rene Broussard is a New Orleans police detective. He had no idea what he was getting himself into when he got involved in the case that has him and his partner bringing Natalie in for questioning after rescuing her from a flock of attacking birds. To complicate matters, Natalie's lust is focused directly on Rene and neither of them seem to be able to fight the attraction. Renee's partner, Chessa Tomas, quickly realizes that there's something different about Natalie. It doesn't take her very long or very many questions to know that Natalie is a baby vampire. Unfortunately she doesn't find it necessary to fully explain to Renee or Natalie what is going on, she just simply tells Renee that it's a family matter. Renee simply warns him that whatever he does - do not have sex with Natalie. Later that evening, Chessa leaves Renee alone with Natalie while she goes off to arrange for the protection that Natalie will need. That was a mistake, Renee does his best to avoid temptation, but Natalie is almost desperate with her desires. The comfort that he offers gets him close enough for her to take her first lusty bite and there's no way that Renee can resist her after that. Renee swears that Natalie is not for him but these things have a way of working themselves out - hopefully. Will they be able to find happiness with the evil that's out to destroy her? Delilah Devlin's INTO THE DARKNESS is a poignant tale that will pull at a reader's heartstrings right from the first page. I loved every action-packed page. It's fascinating to read about the changes that occur in Natalie. She goes from a scared and timid woman to a force to be reckoned with. Renee goes through his own changes as well. The minute he finds out that Natalie is a vampire he automatically decides that she is not for him, he'll battle his own warring feelings throughout the book. Even Chessa who at first appears to be cold toward almost everyone around her seems to loosen up and become more personable. I could have easily cried for her at the end of the story. I'm truly hoping that there will be another story coming for her. She deserves some happiness in her life. In addition to the thrilling plot, I was fascinated by the descriptions of scenes that are so vivid I was able to visualize them in my mind's eye. Ms. Devlin sure knows how to turn up the heat on sex scenes so that they practically steal your breath. If you've never read a Delilah Devlin book you're really missing out on some great stories.
