5.0 out of 5 stars Into Ecstasy
Although I do not follow the Sufi path, I have gained so much from listening and chanting with this music. Taneen are not just wonderful musicians, they embue their music with a spiritual depth that the listener can feel.

The word "Sufi" evokes for me the magical sound of the reed flute, which conjures up in my mind visions of the desert and its austere beauty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, March 4, 2003
This review is from: Into Ecstasy (Audio CD)
I have been a professor of Eastern Studies for quite some time, so I was very eager to listen to the group Taneen, whom I have heard so much about from my collegues. I must say that it is one of the best mystical CD's I have heard to date and I would recommend it to anyone who either wants to listen to amazing music from the East OR is looking for a way to wind down at the end of a stressful day.

Thanks to Taneen for bringing Sufi Music to the non-Farsi speakers. This CD transcends the boundaries of culture, language and time. The combination of intoxicating rhythms and chants will resonate through your whole being. It will take your soul on an uplifting spiritual journey.
I read Sufi poetry in Farsi and in English. I often find myself comparing the translation with the Farsi version. Although the language of Love is universal and unearthly, I must say that the translated lyrics in this CD truly represent the MESSAGE. When I first listened to Taneen's music, I was moved to tears. Their longing, passion and love will definitely touch your soul. Taneen, my heart thanks you!

The word "Sufi" evokes for me the magical sound of the reed flute, which conjures up in my mind visions of the desert and its austere beauty.

"Into Ecstasy" did not meet my expectations at all. I was looking for a kind of Oriental music that would not be sensual, something deeply religious and pacifying. Instead, I got music that sounds like pop or very ordinary New Age music. The lyrics do seem to be derived from Sufi poetry but because most of them are sung in English and by a female singer whose voice is absolutely charmless and unimpressive with what is evidently a modern Western musical accompaniment, the result is totally off the mark. Let me assure you that there is not a single atom of mysticism or religious fervour on this cd.It is simply pop music with a whiff of orientalism.

Buyer beware! This is a complete rip-off. Poor Rumi! He must be turning over in his grave when he hears the name of Sufi used for such musical rubbish...

If you like Oriental religious songs I recommend that you search among albums featuring Sister Marie Keyrouz.
