4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Clash of Cultures January 7, 2012

The narrative takes place in 1987, in Davis, California. Kalpanik has emigrated from Delhi, India to America. His first job is as a teaching assistant while he is working towards his graduate Degree in Computer Science and Engineering.

This is also his first introduction to the American culture. He compares his life in India and United States and come up with several fascinating differences. for example, in one of his compares how the women folk in India wear color and beautiful dresses like saris and American women wear plain dresses such as jeans. this comparison is valid not only with India but other Asian countries as well. The night I read the book I attended a formal event for people from Philippines and the discrepancy in clothing between the American and Filipino women was very evident and reminded me of the book.

Caution - This eBook is part of the bigger eBook Welcome to the USA - Winner of the Best Teen Book Award (Multi-cultural Books Category) you may want to buy that eBook instead.

I have to confess, this story confused me. The POV and the voice used for the narrative is not one I am used to reading. Not being a US citizen lots of the comparisons did not hit home for me.

I think if the author switched from the passive voice to the active voice I might have liked this better.
In all, I think you should read it yourself and make up your own mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very entertaining story May 26, 2012

Into the Heart of the Mind is a very good book. It is very interesting to see two cultures clashing in such a fashion. One of the other things that I like about this book is that it is both well written and well worded. That is something that a lot of people don't get right.

This book is a very inspiring and romantic. It is also very realistic, which I suppose is to be expected of a non-fiction book. I very much enjoyed every minute I spent reading this book.

I would definitely highly recommend this book to anybody.
