5.0 out of 5 stars An uplifting "comeback"
Into The Light is a very enjoyable CD. There are thirteen songs on here (the last one is actually a Spanish version of the hit "Coming Out Of The Dark.") The music is very diverse and has an even mix of fast, slow and mid-tempo songs. It's a very inspiring CD, especially since it was released after Gloria recovered from her bus accident. 3.0 out of 5 stars Gloria shows quality once again, but this one has it ups and downs
Gloria Estefan has at least one hit on this Cd called Coming Out of the Dark, but when she goes into the "syntheseisers
land" on some of the tracks it`s a let down from the " Estefan quality" we love, (at least some of us do, hopefully). This is
to much "discoland" sometimes, on track 3 What goes around she sounds like Donna Summer. Nothing wrong with that,for...

Wow! This CD has some of the greatest songs I've ever heard! "Live For Loving You" is probably one of my favorite songs, and it is here on this CD. Very good music to dance to! "Mama Yo Can't Go" is also another good one. "Desde La Oscuridad" the Spanish version of "Coming Out of the Dark" is a very catchy tune. I was singing it for days! Get this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing cd @}->---, September 11, 2006

I will never ever forget watching the first performance from Gloria after her bus crash at the AMAs when she sang Coming Out Of The Dark. Not only did the crowd stand and cheer for what seemed like 10 minutes (closer to 2 or so), but there wasn't a dry eye in the house (or in mine). Ever since, whenever I hear that beautiful song, I still almost cry. It's amazing, and I guess it's true what they say about how an artists best work comes from when they write personal songs steming from personal tragedies or triumphs. In this case, the song is about both.
Coming Out Of The Dark is by far the best song on here and one of the best songs she has ever written. Also here is the fast and catchy What Comes Around and the hauntingly beautiful Close My Eyes. The two other stand out songs were both hits (and for obvious reasons) - Can't Forget You and Live For Loving You. Gloria is known for both her fantastic ballads and the cute boppy songs too. This is a great cd because there is a good mix of both on here. I really love it and still listen to it often even now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta be in the dark...to make it into the light, October 15, 2006
This review is from: Into the Light (Audio CD)
This is the first album Gloria released following her tragic bus accident that almost left her paralyzed. Anytime you feel like your goals are out of reach and look impossible, listen to this album. The whole album is basically a testament to Gloria's road to recovery and never giving up on herself. The first single, "Coming Out of the Dark" is a brilliant way to open the album! The song tells the story of her rehabilitation and perseverance. Having the choir sing background vocals adds to the depth of the song's message. The inspirational songs don't end there. Take a listen to "Seal Our Fate", "What Goes Around", "Nayib's Song", "Sex in the 90's" and "Close My Eyes". The messages in these songs are self explanatory yet they also offer inspiration and positivity. I often listen to this album in the morning as I think of dragging myself into work or perhaps after a long, stressful day.

Gloria closes the album with "Desde La Oscuridad", the Spanish version of "Coming Out of the Dark"...a touching way to end the journey that you take with her. I still appreciate the personal messages blended with the latin-inflected pop on this album 15 years after its release.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glorious Return!, June 12, 2001
This review is from: Into the Light (Audio CD)
This was Gloria's come-back album after the accident in her tour bus and every song contains a theme of healing and restoration, showing how one can overcome a serious problem. Coming Out Of The Dark is a gospel-flavoured ballad dealing with the loving support of her husband and her legion of loyal fans. My other favourites are Heart With Your Name On It and Live For Loving You. A very inspring album with great songs, leaving you with a warm glow.

I rank this CD as one of Gloria's best. I enjoy listening to the songs and there are few boring places that I want to skip over. Because it was produced the year following her bus accident, it was made during a time of crisis. That must be the main reason most of the songs show a more pensive and serious side to life, as compared to the songs on her earlier albums. The songs "Seal our Fate", "What Goes Around", and "Sex in the 90's" are examples of the subject of how people can get into trouble. In addition, "Coming out of the Dark", "Nayib's Song", "Close my Eyes" and "Mama Yo Can't Go" have references to depression and melancholy. These songs are refreshing to me because they convey a realistic approach to life that I and (certainly) many people can relate to. On the other hand, it has other songs that are more cheerful. To me, this album is also a good way to remember the atmosphere during the period of recovery after the bus accident.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gloria Will Never Die, April 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Into the Light (Audio CD)
After the bus accident that injured her spine in '91, few believed she would ever be able to walk or make music again. Well, Gloria sure showed em! The triumphant "Coming Out Of The Dark" is proof of that. She elicts the help of a gospel chorus for background vocals and moral support, while the latin percussions and synths softly pulse in the background. To show us she can craft rockin' dance numbers as well as the next person, she bursts with the jubilant "Seal Our Fate", a caution of living too fast and on the edge that can lead to serious consequences. Obviously the accident made Gloria appreciate life more, and be wary of their mistakes. This is evident in other songs like "What Goes Around Comes Around", the politically correct "Sex In The 90's", and "Close My Eyes". There's also the requisite tribute to "The place that I Come From" "Mama Yo No Can Go". The wistfull love ballads that are her forte like "Heart With Your Name On It", "Remember Me With Love", and "Can't Forget You". There's even a song dedicated to Nayib, her oldest child. This is also highly personal and illustrates the stress she had raising him. If you're looking for a REAL comeback album, this is it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Into The Light (1991) Glorita Estefan, July 16, 2004
This review is from: Into the Light (Audio CD)
In 1990, while the band was on tour, Gloria was in a serious bus accident, where she broke her spinal cord. The accident was supposed to have left her paralyzed, but the doctors managed to prevent that by inserting two metal rods into Gloria's lower back.

In 1991, a year after the accident, Miami Sound Machine became just a back-up band for Gloria, as she became a solo act. In 'English' terms, Gloria stayed with the band, but they dropped 'Miami Sound Machine', so that Gloria can go on as a solo artist. Gloria released her fifth album, Into The Light, in the same year as the band change. This album, which was Gloria's fifth when you count the first four with Miami Sound Machine, reflects on what happened when Gloria got into her accident. This is another one of my favorite albums.

COMING OUT OF THE DARK
The first single from the album. This is the song that mainly has the album reflecting on her accident. It's not a bad song.

SEAL OUR FATE
Although the message in this song has been used many times over the years by different acts, but just about everybody has to have a song with this message and Gloria took the liberty of making herself the next person to record a song with this message. When you are going for something that you want in life, then don't put it off until tomorrow, because if tomorrow comes, you may wake up tomorrow and find out that your chance was taken away from you. If you want to reach for your goals, then do it while you have the chance. Don't you dare put it off until you decide you have the time to get around to it.

WHAT GOES AROUND
Another song with a great message. This message is being said to everyone in this everyday world. What goes around, most definitely comes around. Whatever you do onto other people, the other people will do onto you. That's best way I could put it.

NAYIB'S SONG (I AM HERE FOR YOU)
Nayib is Gloria and Emilo's son, who was born in 1980, which would make him eleven years old when this album was released. Gloria decided to have written and recorded this song for her son and I thought it was a great gesture.

REMEMBER ME WITH LOVE
A pretty song.

HEART WITH YOUR NAME ON IT
Not bad.

SEX IN THE 90's
A great dance song.

CLOSE MY EYES
Another pretty song.

LIGHT OF LOVE
Okay.

CAN'T FORGET YOU
The second single from the album. This is yet another beautiful song.

LIVE FOR LOVING YOU
The third and final single from the album. This was yet another one of my favorite songs and it's another song that takes me back to my childhood.

MAMA YO CAN'T GO
Not a favorite.

DESDE LA OSCURIDAD (COMING OUT OF THE DARK)
This is the Spanish version of the song. It was nice to have her open the album with the English version and close the album with the Spanish version, but I prefer the English version.

I love the concept of this album and every Gloria fan should have it.

4.0 out of 5 stars LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL, November 25, 2002
By
This review is from: Into the Light (Audio CD)
The tunnel in question is the long rehab period Gloria went thru after her 1990 accident.
She took her time out, wrote a whole new album and it turned out to be one of her best works.
She is as mainstream as ever: SEAL OUR FATE brings a rock flavour to her work she never experienced before, CAN'T FORGET YOU is a great AC Top 40 ballad as much as the Diane Warren-penned HEART WITH YOUR NAME ON IT is a pop-oriented one.
Warren provides help also on the latin-influenced LIVE FOR LOVING YOU.
She also delivers a track called LANGUAGE OF LOVE that appears as a bonus track on the European release of the cd.
Dancefloor fans will be delighted with WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND and SEX IN THE '90'S.
COMING OUT OF THE DARK is definitely the strongest point of the whole album, being the most auto-biographical one, full of gospel reminescences.
Gloria proves more than just a latin artist, this album is the proof.
