Into The Mist: When Someone You Love Has Alzheimer's, by Deborah Uetz (2005, Xlibris), is marked by honest and sincere expression. Joined by several friends in a collaborative effort, Deborah presents a book with universal appeal for those families dealing with the devastating effects of Alzheimer's disease.

The book begins by giving you an open view into the lives of Alzheimer's victims Frank, Shirley, Jack and their families as they cope with the day-to-day challenges of this merciless disease. Each story is has its own distinctiveness, but the journey down the path is very similar for all these individuals.

The author put something in this book for everyone, from touching stories that will make your heart ache to discussing long term care choices, explaining the difference between Medicare/Medicaid, explaining Long Term Care insurance, to discussing medical advancements.

The book concludes with an exceptional interview that Deborah has with Dr. Delacourte, who talks about the hope of finding a cure for Alzheimer's. I particularly like the way Dr. Delacourte stated his belief that a cure would be found. "It will be like cancer: We will not switch from a non cure to a cure, but we will win days, then months, then years, on AD (Alzheimer's/Dementia).... We are already able to win years in certain circumstances." This gives me hope.

Throughout the book you can see Deborah's personal touch. There are helpful tips for care giving and coping, based on her own experience caring for her father, Jack. It is obvious to see by her writing that Deborah wants to share in order to help others.

If you are looking for a book with a personal touch this is sure to help uplift and encourage, I strongly recommend Into the Mist. ~Dutchy

"Into the Mist" is one of the most sightful, thoughtful and honest publications on Alzheimer's I have had the privilege to read. Too often we find books that are either completely scientific (and thereby non-user friendly), or simply appear to skim the surface of reality (thus have no depth to them at all). "Into The Mist" achieves and maintains this precious equilibrium which is (I believe) a true reflection of the author.

What is apparent as one reads through these tales is the pain, sorrow and acceptance is an ironic humour experienced only by those of us who have had to watch someone we love succumb to the insidiousness of Alzheimer's. An unfortunate "club" to be a member of.

What is also apparent is the author's ability to overcome the odds and produce an Alzheimer's for Dummy's if you will. So little is known about the triggers of Alzheimer's, where it kicks-in, why it kicks-in but if we all took a little time to read and write like the author, then surely we are making inroads to try and understand Alzheimer's.

The book, "Into The Mist" by Deborah Glover-Uetz shares with the reader an honest view of, Alzheimer's disease, victims. Also the author tells of the day-to-day struggles of the families as they cope with this difficult disease.

There is something for everyone, dealing with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. Included are: touching stories, how to make long term care decisions, dealing with financial burdens, and helpful tips for care giving and coping.

Finally Uetz concludes with a message from, leading expert, Dr. Delacourte who feels a cure will be found but in small steps. He gives those dealing with Alzheimer's disease, hope.

Definitely, a helpful tool.

tempered with humor and heart.... that is what this book is all about. For people suffering with the effects of Alzheimer's Disease on their families, this is a must read. It will make you laugh out-loud and then cry at the same time. It is honest and heartfelt and lets the families of Alzheimer's sufferers know they are not alone. It also gives an in-depth look at the personal side of Alzheimer's which is sometimes overlooked in the complex medical jargon of some texts.

this book had a lot of very good information in all areas of dealing with alzheimers. i would recomend it a diffinate read for anyone wanting to learn about alzheimers

Regardless of whether ALZ disease has touched your family, this is a must read. Deb Uetz has done an amazingly great job of telling the story of several families, and then giving the nuts and bolts facts about the disease. This book is a must have for every library and every family bookshelf.

This is a good book to read to gain perspective and get some real insight to alzheimers disease. This book came quickly after I ordered it and was in decent shape, although there was some highlighting in the book that was not mentioned. over all pleased with purchase.

I have enjoyed reading this book and learning more about what is going on with a person with Alzheimer's. If you are careing for a loved one with Alzheimer's, then you should read this book..
