5.0 out of 5 stars Still "smooth jazz," but dig that twist of soul!
This CD is Kirk's tribute to Memphis Soul. He does it with an obvious love for the music, and his homage is aided by various Memphis cats including legendary producer David Porter, singer Wendy Moten, and drummer Blair Cuningham. There are also various guest stars such as Maurice White of EW&F and Isaac Hayes of South Park. (ha!) The real star, though, is Mr...

2.0 out of 5 stars Service Great!....music not so great.....
I received my cd in record time and in great condition....Into My Soul but was not impressed by the music. Kirk Whalum has done much better. This cd left something to be desired.

(ha!) The real star, though, is Mr. Whalum's horn. He swings soulfully on such hot tracks as the uplifting "Me Me & You" and a lively take on "Hold On I'm Coming." The recording quality is excellent, allowing the sax notes on "Club Paradise" to take on a quality almost like a woman's voice.

Credit must also be given to Kirk's superb band, especially Alex Al's vivid bass playing and John Stoddart on keyboards. They provide the perfect backdrop for the sax.

By the way, the "bonus track" on Into My Soul is a delightful two-minute piece of bossa-nova jazz called "Postlude In B Major." It's a fitting wrap-up to a thoroughly enjoyable jazz album. The enhanced CD content is minor but fun -- some Instant Messenger images from the CD booklet, and a slideshow with narration by Kirk about the making of the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars That Cool Memphis Groove, July 24, 2003

The title is an indication of where this music will warm you up. As Kirk indicates in his linar notes, this CD is his impressions and interprettions of the Memphis brand of music guided by the producing talents of David Porter (Stax Records and Isaac Hayes). Think of this CD and every tune and Smooth Jazz with Memphis Soul. Kirk is joined by a number of fine musicians including his partners from BWB, Norman Brown (2003 Grammy award winner for best pop instrumental and a competitor of Kirk in that category) and Rick Braun. Isaac hayes and Maurice White lend their voices on 2 of the tracks. Enjoy this CD. I sure have!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Album, July 30, 2003

As his soulful, smooth and cool sound has expressed itself very well on his other albums, Kirk had done it again. He really put the great feel of Memphis Jazz into the songs on this record. Tracks one and three are my favs but I definately think the whole CD was worth it. Along with Kirk, he has special guests such as BWB(his guests Rick Braun and Norman Brown), his bro. Kevin and others which take this CD to the top. As a Sax player myself I have never heard a greater sound and style than Kirk. Enjoy this album because I know I am!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I can feel the humidity in the air, December 10, 2003
This review is from: Into My Soul (Audio CD)
Listening to this CD is an awesome experience. You can almost feel the New Orleans humidity in the air while listening! "Do You Feel Me" (1st cut) is the perfect track to do the bop (hand-dance). While bopping, you can just drag that foot back real slow and put your back in it! I love this CD and it doesn't hurt that Issac Hayes is singing on it either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kirk at his best, May 13, 2004
This review is from: Into My Soul (Audio CD)
This is one of Kirk's best projects and its the bomb. This is one of those cd's that you will listen to without having to skip any tracks. 'I loved you in Memphis' is my favourite and Isaac Hayes and Wendy Morten spiced it up even more. I hope to see more of the BWB projects in future as the collaboration is very good. Keep it up Kirk and dont forget to visit SA again.

5.0 out of 5 stars DO U FEEL ME, April 21, 2005
This review is from: Into My Soul (Audio CD)
I brought this CD because of "cannond's" review. We are Philly Boppers and love to find new music for dancing. The 1st cut "DO U FEEL ME," is awesome for the Philly bop or DC hand dancing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Theres one of those straight jazz fools born every minute, November 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Into My Soul (Audio CD)
THis cd is great but my main response is to that idiot that suggested that basically suggested that smooth jazz isnt good because it doesnt conform to the standards of straight ahead. Well maybe people like the sound of KW and if you dont thats you but you can't say the man isnt good because he doesnt play like Coltrane. If you have a problem with smooth jazz than dont listen to it.

This was a birthday gift for my husband. We heard the song "do you feel me," from the CD at another party. I told him I would find it, he was shocked to see the CD as one of his gifts for his birthday and is thoroughly pleased. Thank you again Amazon for continuing to provide quality products.
