This review is from: Into the Outlands (Audio CD)
this is an amazing live album featuring bill laswell on bass, L. shankar on his signature double violin, aiyb dieng on percussion, ronald shannon jackson on drum set and it credits a group called samulnori but my version dosent say what they do but their are verry light ethnic vocals and other percussion than aiyb, kodo like.
the album is verry tribal with a jazzy flair. it has an acid jazz feel at times but is actually verry structured and rythmic not like the live zorn stuff. these are 2 long songs not at all repetisious lots of changes. this is verry early in laswells career recorded in 1987 july/aug in tokyo. a must have for any laswell fan or any fan of fusion jazz or tribal music. |
