Book Description

***Darkness Rising, Book 2 of the Into the Shadows Trilogy, and After Dawn, Book 3 of the Into the Shadows Trilogy, are now available! ***

Fans of the TV series ‘Heroes, the film ‘Push’, and the book ‘The Hunger Games’ will enjoy Into the Shadows, a modern and paranormal thriller.

Paivi Anderson has it all—friends, a spot on the varsity basketball team, wonderful parents, and quite possibly, her first boyfriend. It was everything a freshman in high school could ask for. Her perfect life begins to crumble when she discovers her name on a list distributed by a power-hungry presidential candidate. How could anyone think of Paivi as an Enemy of the State? Could it be because of her special powers? No one was supposed to know about them, but the mysterious messages in her tater tots say otherwise. In INTO THE SHADOWS, Paivi quickly learns who her friends are and is forced into a reality she didn’t see coming.

Into the Shadows is a 65,000 word full novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just not right... November 12, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Well Karly Kirkpatrick...this is just not right. I put down my smutty vampire reads to enjoy your book. Never did I realize, until glancing at my progress meter, that I was going to be left wanting more...more, more, more, more Paivi! I was dumbfounded by the political turns this paranormal novel took. I say job well done and when do I get my follow up? I mean, it was crushing when i turned the last page and realized I have to go back to my smutty vamps and wait as patiently as possible for Paivi. Excellent read definitely five stars from me.

2.0 out of 5 stars A 2.5 is all I can give... September 11, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I wanted to enjoy this book. I wanted to give it at least 3 stars, but there were just too many things that bothered me.

Possible Mild Spoilers

The Bad

First, Paivi was just too immature. The teddy bear, the love of pancakes, the use of the word sourpuss, and some of her thoughts reminded me of an eleven-year-old. The overuse of exclamation marks throughout the entire book only exacerbated her immaturity, and at times made everyone speaking with them sound like six-year-olds.

Second, the use of the list by the Senator to become president, and people's total belief in it right away just didn't work for me, especially how the people were treated. I could see what the author was trying to do. There were comparisons to McCarthyism and even similarities to the rounding up of Jews in pre WWII Germany that could have really worked well, but the story never got to the point where I would suspend my belief that Americans would fall for how the people were treated. Maybe if civilians were already controlled somewhat because of the fear of terrorism I could have bought it. But things changed overnight far too quickly.

Lastly, I got a little bored at times reading about Paivi's `high school life' in the first half.

The Good

When Paivi wasn't exclaiming things like, `I love my birthday!' She was a pretty likable character and did have some mature thoughts about her parents and teachers. I especially liked that she didn't care about being popular. And except for the overused exclamation marks, the writing was good. The second half had a much faster pace than the first, and if the author could have bridged the two together better, I probably would have rated this higher.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Start November 1, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was great. It moved quickly and was very engaging. The plot was varied and interesting, and I couldn't put it down. The only issue I had was the frustration with unresolved plot threads. I can't wait to read the next book and find out what happens.
